This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
Evening. I got up this morning and took a 6 mile walk. I haven’t been worth a flip the rest of the day. It’s 11:30pm and I’m now thinking maybe I should start doing some work:’)
What ever possessed you to walk six miles? I couldn’t do that even with a gun pointed at me. One mile maybe.
I’ve been back on weight watchers for awhile. It’s about time to face the scale and I had a pleasurable weekend:’)Actually I was up to about 4 miles a day. I decided to walk three and I had no choice about coming back!
Have a good evening and congratulations on the 4miles :) Very cool.
Heading to bed, I have to work tomorrow :( but at least it's Friday.
Friday the 13th! night:’)
Hi all - quick check in.... ecurbh’s folks arrived, we hung out for awhile, went into town and had an early dinner... stopped by the capital building and ended up taking a tour, first time ecurbh had been in it, and first time since I’ve seen it after the earthquake damage was repaired. It is a pretty building... shockingly, I did not have the camera. I didn’t know were going to do that!
Anyway, tomorrow we’re going to the volcano :~)
Good morning:)
Sounds like the visit started out very nice.
It’s raining here again.
Becky
I feel better - I certainly look better. I'm not ashamed to be photographed on top of a horse . . . now a bathing suit, we're not quite there yet . . ..
We usually walk 2 miles in the morning and 2 at night with the dogs. Sometimes we do four (2 out and 2 back).
Well, we've awakened to overcast today. Can't see the mountain :~(. We may put off the volcano a couple hours and see if this clears, or wait till another day...
Mount St. Helens VolcanoCam - Mount St. Helens National Volcanic Monument
Congratulations AAM:), that’s a great accomplishment.
Hair: yeah, we got pounded again thru the night. It has stopped now, I’m hoping we are done, at least for the day. We have rain in the forecast for the next several days...it’s just hard to believe it’s the middle of July:\
Sorry the volcano is under cover today, but it did that when I was there, so maybe it will come out later. That is such fun field trip:)
Becky
That’s right, we did wake up to it being greyed in on your day too didn’t we? And that sure turned out to be a good day.
Yes it was. The volcano ranked right up there with your trees, for me:)
Guess what....the barn swallows have hatched another batch of babies in the same nest. I knew I had seen some activity around it, but I never dreamed they would hatch another batch this soon. Of course it may not be the same pair, but this morning, I saw several tiny tiny mouths over the top when one of the parents flew up to it. I’ve never had two batches in one year.
Becky
I love our volcano for taking company to. :~)
Very interesting about the Swallows! I wouldn’t have guessed they’d hatch more than one brood. Maybe they’re confused by the rain and they think it’s already spring again :~)
I heard something interesting yesterday.
It’s already being rumored around that hay will be in short supply again this year.
1. They can’t get in the fields to bale.
2. The few that have tried didn’t get it out of the field before it rained again so the hay was rained on.
3. The grass that hasn’t been baled yet is rotting in the fields now.
Becky
I spent the majority of the day at the fair yesterday. The quantity of exhibits have went down each year. Usually it rains and rains and that probably has discouraged a lot of vendors. There seemed to be less livestock also. I ate a delicious cinnamon roll in the morning and later had a sausage sandwich, that I could not finish.
Tomorrow is the pleasure show and Alison will show in leadline and Amy will do a couple of generation gap classes. She won the Adult barrels last night on the barrel horse she used to show. She beat the owner's time in his class. It scares me to watch her run, but maybe my prayers helped. :)
Oh no, sounds like us last year. Fortunately it was a great year for hay. Now I am not sure they will get a second cut, because of our lack of rain.
G'morning! Our swallows always hatched two broods every year. It was always a lot of fun to watch them and I've really missed them this year. The nest is still there, but nobody has moved in. I've seen them on the porch ledge looking at the nest, but they don't stay. I wonder if something is wrong with it and I just need to knock it down and let them start over next year.
Last year I had 6 babies in the 2nd brood and that was really too many for that particular nest. One morning I found 3 of them on the ground by the porch. They weren't near old enough to fly on their own so I put them back in the nest, but they were gone again the next day. I don't know if they jumped out again or if the other ones rooted them out or if one of them possibly died in the nest and that's why nobody wants to nest in it this year. I'm just full of wonderings aren't I!
Aw MAN! That really sucks! You can’t get any hay because it’s been too wet and I can’t get any hay because it’s been too dry. We just can’t win can we. Jeez!
Ah yes - but Friday the 13th is one of my lucky days, and it’s payday. :)
Have fun at the volcano - it’s been rumbling a little hasn’t it? YOU did not have a camera - the world is coming to an end :)
