I worked for a vet also and can give IV fluids and take blood. I used to draw blood from the dogs to take in for heartworm checks and blood from the horses to take in for coggins. Saved having to have the vet come out or to take the animals in. I was at a friends house one time and she had a horse go down. She called her vet and he told her to get some Banamine in him ASAP IV. She did not know how to do it so asked me. I was a little nervous about it as he was a 3 year old stallion and had not been handled much. He was to sick to really care so it went off uneventful. We carry Banamine injections, bute and antibiotics in our emergency horse kit. You never know what can happen and where you might be.
Hair, I am so sorry about Cartman. It is a hard decision to make but one we all have to face. I had this same thing happen not to long ago to my old Setter Fancy. She went down real fast like that too.
Thanks Blade... It’s a little quieter here without the grouchy cuss here trying to lay on my mousepad while I’m at the computer :~]
I know how that is! When I had to put my 19 year old cat Tubbs to sleep last year it took a while before we did not feel his absense. He was an onry old cuss too.
~sniff~ Makes me feel bad for growling at him last time he was in the way ;~)
Well, I guess I shouldn’t put off today’s housecleaning any longer... Three days till ecurbh’s parents’ arrival.... Eeek!
Here are a few shots from the July 4th show. Thought it might cheer you up. :)
She has a couple of teeth missing in the front, so I told her to not open her mouth...lol
The little girl on the left, in the blue, is Alison's main competition. She rides a QH that we used to own. They either tie for hi-point or one of them wins. The other girl on PJ is a friend. She shows in a older age division.
She always looks like an ad from a magazine :~) She’s too cute to be real!
How many show perfect little outfits does she have? :~)
It will be here before you know it!
Don’t say that! I need more time!
That is a pretty big hat on that little girl in the blue! LOL, it is bigger than she is! I love to go to the local saddle club show and watch the little ones show. Some of them sure can handle a horse! You wouldn't think the horse could even feel them on their back.
Thanks for the WA geography lesson! I am going with a friend so probably won’t be able to come up to see you. We are sharing the car. If it was just me, I’d take off and come see you anyway!
I didn’t realize it got that warm up there. August is triple digit territory in Texas so that won’t be anything unusual for me. I was hoping for something a bit cooler than that though. :0
We are flying into Portland on Aug 12 and back to Texas on Aug 19. School starts up again the last week of August so I have to be home for that.
Here is where I am going: http://www.classicaldressage.com and http://www.whitehorsevale.com (the breeder that Dr. Ritter trains for).
Don't put off until tomorrow what can be done today! LOL.
And thanks, she is a good kid too.
It is amazing how those little kids can ride. Big horses too. Alison had to do a proper dismount in trail class yesterday. PJ is so big, that she had to kick her feet out of the stirrups and jump down. She won a third for that effort. :)
Eastern Washington is very different than the west. And hotter. You'll see that change before your very eyes as you drive East from Portland. Depending on what part of Texas you're in, the area you're going to may look very much like home.
The drive through the Columbia Gorge is a really pretty one. If you can take the time on your way to stop at some of the scenic viewpoints, do. Multnomah Falls & Historic Columbia River Highway
I love Washington. My Aunt lives in Seattle. My Ex In Laws live in Spokane. We used to go up the California coastline into Seattle then over to Spokane. Long way to get there I know but oh so pretty. I went to a dog show in Yakima one time too, very pretty state.
What I’ve always liked about Washington is it’s sortof a miniature of the whole country. It has a little bit of everything, from rain forest on the coast, to tall timber, to hard mountains, to high desert and lowland river basin farmland that looks like Ohio or Kansas. Yakima is in that high desert area.
Hair, I’m so sorry to hear about Cartman. He’s had a rough go of it for a while now with his eye problems so I’m glad that he’s gone on over the bridge where he can be the master of his realm again. He’ll probably wait for you there just so he can have his servants back! ;o)
Those pictures of Alison are just the cutest, especially the last one with her hand on her hip. She looks like she’s saying “I can out-ride anybody OUT there, so you just try me!” And I think she would’ve been cute as a button with a big ol’ grin showing those snaggle teeth. They only go through that stage once and I think it’s really cute.
Thanks Frog :~)
I still marvel at how well he did blind. Not just around the house, but out in the yard. It opened my mind a bit to just how well even critters can adapt and overcome and still get around. He didn’t just go in easy places either... He’d still go next door to Rosie’s sometimes, jump up and navigate around the ever-changing clutter on our desks, and climb up on top of the tall bookcase.
Of course, there were still times when he would jump down blind, off the desk onto a sleeping dog...
