The thing about her is you will never muscle her into anything and get away with it. She’s not rebellious or aggressive, she’s terrified. She needs a gritty little confident rider, but one who can be quiet and just lay a nice quiet hand on her neck and say “calm down” in the middle of a tornado :~D
She really tries very very hard to please. Her whole attitude is “Please don’t hurt me!” If you get aggressive with her, she panics.
Her confidence problem is entirely people related. She’d leap over or off of anything, she’s not spooky about objects or obstacles, just people who might be trying to kill her.
I posted BladeRider’s link over on the other thread too so the others could see it.
You're gonna have to talk with the secretary and find the right kid. A lot of the little girls have no tact, and it sounds like tact is what will be needed!
Probably somebody tried to muscle her somewhere along the line without taking the trouble to find out what she was thinking . . . . happens a lot, unfortunately.
I did not think you would be able to see it since it is streaming video clip.
Well, the way they block streaming media around here is apparently determined by the server checking some list that gets updated periodically by some outside entity, and apparently some of these sites ain’t on the list yet. So I win a few every now and then.
Well they’ve let us go early, so I’m outta here. Seeya tomorrow!
There was a lot of marshland then."
Now the marshland has been drained and there is a "vinyl ghetto".. :)
Awesome tribute to our Nation's History. Thanks for posting the pics and story. I really enjoyed it.
Alison and I took a ride in the woods. I rode Jody and she did well. Good little A-rab horse. :) A lot of riding back there is through the brush and trees, where you have to go around the big ruts and mud holes. I don't really enjoy riding back there because of that, but it's the best we have. There is an open field we go through and two deer ran out of the woods. Alison thought that was pretty cool.
:) Glad you enjoyed it.
And I think that's where it all falls apart. If I'm contacting them with a motive like "Hi, I have this fairly dangerous little pony, I'm looking for a kid to put on her" it's a pretty hard sell. I don't want to understate that she has definitely not thrown her last rider.
I think if I was inside that circle, I'd find the right person, but a stranger with a bad pony? Most of the instructors would be a little leery of us both.
Oh well, once in awhile I get a bee in my bonnet to do something with her... there's numerous good young eventers who gushed about her on the horse forum thread I posted about her (If a tree falls in the forest... will my pony jump it?), a few of which are probably good enough, they just aren't on the right side of the country. Maybe one of these times I'll get lucky and one of them will be close enough to say "Take her" "Try her!" please!! Just give her back if she doesn't work out". I do NOT want her sold, I don't want her ending up in the wrong place.
Meanwhile, she gets to live the life of a Lady of Leisure . . . .
Glad you had a good ride on the little A-Rab horse. :~)
I’ve been out cleaning the barn. We’ve been lazy about cleaning up the hay room and there was a foot of loose hay on the floor in there. I raked it up and spread four big cart fulls around out in the pasture and the horses thought they were being given something neat.
Now I have to go get hay... hopefully while it’s not raining.
What might be best is a small adult who would be willing to start her. Little girls often don’t have patience with scared ponies.
The girls (Alison and Amy) plus our friend Tammy are hauling over to the State Park for a ride today. There are not a lot of trails, but it will make a nice easy ride.
Everyone have a great weekend.
Good morning - hope you have a great weekend also.
Good morning ladies!
We went bowling last night.
It’s going to be a nice weekend here... I think we might go trail riding tomorrow... let the trails dry today, if they will.
Have a great weekend ahead. It’s beautiful here :)
Then when we were done riding and Tammy was unsaddling, his slip his halter. That was get loose number #2. We put Jody in my trailer thinking he would load better, but he didn’t. We ended up putting him in the stock trailer with Biscuit. That was after he got loose for the third time, pulling the lead out of Tammy’s hands and giving her a rope burn. Needless to say, this horse is going to be sold. I just cannot deal with his behavior. He does do great on the trails, goes through everything.
It was a beautiful day for a trail ride. Sunny and temps in high 70's. The deer flys were a little annoying.
Alison and Tubby in the woods.
We ride through the woods and come out in this area by the lake. People whose yards back up to the lake, mow to have access.
Tammy and Bodie. Good thing she is a young girl and can take the kind of fall she did. It would have killed me!
Amy and Biscuit. She was very good on the trails, for being the youngest horse (4 yo).
Jody and me. She was good, but does trip a lot. A couple of spooks for various reason. That bird that flew out, was surely going to kill her!
Oh I’m sorry about Bodie. I understand though, not wanting to get hurt.
I appreciate the pics. I wish I knew a place we could get to a lake and swim horses. Did you take any of them in? I used to swim my mustang out over his head. It was really fun. But that farm lived on the lake, I don’t know where to go that’s public and allows horses.
I’m so sorry about Bodie. I think maybe the trainer didn’t do much training. He’s such a beautiful horse.
No, we didn’t take any of them in. Bodie was the only one that would get close. The beach area was sandy, but it would be knee deep muck for those horses, once you got into the water.
