The FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread! - Thread 11

Posted on 01/02/2007 9:57:39 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - (very out of date) Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

How interesting:)

There use to be an exotic animal dealer right on the main road thru Bixby. They had kangaroos. Now that was fun to see. My son was friends with the grandson of the lady that owned them. Charlie and Kristy got to see babies that were still in the pouch, altho not the pouch of the momma kangas. For some reason, they had to take the babies away at a certain age, (they stay in the pouches a long time), and they lived in fake pouches that hung on doorknobs in the ladies house:) They’d come out, to eat and play awhile, then crawl back in. Kristy said it was really cool and was going to take me to see them, but before I got to go, she sold them all and got out of the business.:(

They were cool. The big ones were outside in runs by the road. People use to stop all the time and look at them. They would come right up to the fence. I guess this woman made big bucks selling them. It just got to be to much for her to take care of, she was an older lady, in her 70’s.

She was an incredible lady, and there is a really sad story about her.

She built, literally built, did all the rock work on a house that she lived in for awhile. This house is small but has a real charm about it, is the only word I can use to describe it. The inside has rock floors, that she laid, probably when she was like 50ish.

Anyway, where she kept these animals was next door, and she and her husband built another house there, and the one she built stood empty for years. Anyway, she finally gave this house to her grandson, the one that was friends with Charlie, same age, about when he was 21. Debt free....he didn’t have to pay a nickel for it. It sat on about 5 acres of prime, prime land. Right on Memorial where land is just astronomical in price.

This dumb a$$ kid and his wife, started borrowing money against it, till they were sooooo far in debt, they had to sell it just to break even, when it finally reached the point they couldn’t make the payments. For stuff like cars, trucks, furniture, just stuff. We were hearing about it from Charlie. I wanted so bad to get a hold of that kid, and just kill him...I can’t hardly drive past it without just feeling sick for the lady...This kid is now living in a dumpy little rent house in a dumpy little addition....

How very sad for the woman. I remeber you talking about the kids having to sell the house to get out of debt but I don’t believe you described the house and the fact that the lady built it.

That has got to be the cutest puppy ever! If it was me, I’d just have to keep him. Your yard sure looks great. The fern bed in the background of the 2nd pic is so nice. And the 3rd picture where he was upside down took me a long time to figure out where the ball was in relation to his head. I finally saw the nose and figured it out. Too cute!

Good Morning.

Going to be another hot one today. 90's. Whew! We could use some rain. We had a few drops yesterday and I hurried and put grass seed down where I redid the flower bed. Those few drops is all we got.

Yesterday, I went to town and got my title and plates for the trailer. Then went shopping and came home and cleaned house. It was just too hot and humid to do anything outside.

Camels have got to be one of the ugliest creatures on the planet. But I have pasture envy about all that nice green grass they have!

You are going to have such a hard time sending him home, and he may not want to go.

I didn’t realize you were that close. I saw on the news this morning that the firefighters were expecting 4 more days of bad winds?

...raining, and more on the way.

Sounds like the OK State Flower is going to have to be changed to Mold!

I took some pics of my garden/seating area this morning that I thought I'd show ya.
The corner bed where the pansies were...

Looking down the front porch towards the seating area...

The main seating area...

A little glider across from the main seating area...

The rock bed to the left of the main seating area...

The storage/potting shed...

Buster going after one of the myriad of moles that I have. He had his right front leg crammed into the hole, all the way up to the shoulder, just before I took this picture and of course the shutter wasn't fast enough to catch it. :-{

Pearl having a drink out of the "Cat Pool" I chisled out of a piece of sandstone...
