The FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread! - Thread 11

Posted on 01/02/2007 9:57:39 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - (very out of date) Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

Belgian! Wow... I’d love to have one, but drafts take their own size of everything... Do you have room?

Yeah - it was pretty funny.

I would not drive across something that is cracking and popping under me. :~\

My mole is back. Any hope that I drowned him was folly :~)

A FREE HORSE?

(what's the catch?)

Actually, my trainer just got a Free Horse. He's turned out to be a good one, his previous owner was scared of him but there's nothing to be scared of . . . so far.

... whenever someone yells at the dog, and shouts "BAD DOG!" she's come blazing from wherever she is in the house and attacks him, hissing and spitting.

LOL!!! He's been a bad dog and she's gonna make him regret it. So funny!

Just had a short ride, the trails are all soooooo muddy, that you just can’t hardly do anything, so we climbed some hills and came home.

Sorry about the mole:\ Looks like you’ll have to set some traps.

Well, that just really sucks about the rain and the muddy trails. You’ve got one extreme and I’ve got the other. Our dust is so bad that it’s pitiful. My poor horses were gray all over after having to ride 6 or 8 miles on limestone gravel roads in an open 2-horse trailer on Saturday. But we had a good ride in spite of it. My horseyfriend Elizabeth, who hasn’t ridden a lot in the last several years for various reasons, came with me and Shirley and rode Miss Hope. She has horses of her own, but one of them had navicular and had to have a neurectomy and will probably just be a pasture ornament from now own, and the other one hasn’t been ridden in so long that it’ll take quite a bit of conditioning to get him back in any kind of shape to be able to keep up with a group. So her riding Hope was a good deal for both of us. Hope needed the exercise.

It was incredibly hot (about 98* by the time we got back to the trailer) so we only did the short loop out of the horse camp, which is about 4 hours including a lunch break, but it was really great to see her enjoy herself that much again. She was riding down the trail at a fast rack, hollering “WOO HOO!!” and I just had to laugh. I’d be the same way if I hadn’t been able to ride in a long time like that. I’m hoping that she’ll be able to go with me this coming Saturday when we go to the rails-to-trails. I’ll let her ride Grace next time. I think she’ll like her too. You just can’t beat good friends and good horses all at the same time. It just don’t get any better.

Those pictures of Rock are really great! It looks like Grizzly was having a good time out there too. I was half way expecting to see him hanging off of Rocky’s tail. Was it him that used to do that all the time, or another dog of yours?

Glad you had a good ride with your friend!

We’re drying out now I think for a couple days. Our trails would be muddy today too, so I think we’ll wait.

Ecurbh’s mom just wrote that their family friend from a few hours from here has died while he and the Missus were on a church group trip in Fiji, when he apparently had a heart attack. At this moment the Missus is still in Fiji. Wow... At least she was with a group of friends. I can’t imagine how overwhelming it would be to be alone traveling and have that happen, halfway around the world, with all the complications of that.

Anyway... Since ecurbh’s parents are planned to come here in a couple weeks and were planning to spend a few days with them, it occurs to me that depending on whatever else is happening around the Missus, they may either postpone or extend their trip to see her ????

Oh Man, I sure hate to hear that about your in-law’s friend! That would be SO scary to have that happen, ANYTIME, much less when you’re in a foreign country. You would feel so alone, even with friends around, because no one is as close to you as your spouse. I’ll keep her in my prayers. I may not know who she is, but God does.

Thanks Frog... ecurbh grew up around these people and their kids. They’re nice folks. They came to our wedding.

Hey, that sounds like you had a great ride:).

Yes Grizzly is the one that hangs on to the horses tails at times. He did it to Rocky during this romp, I just never got it on camera.

Thank you. I agree. Very hard especially to be so far from home.

Here's a pic I took of the scene around here a while ago. Had trouble getting it loaded, but I guess it finally did.
