The FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread! - Thread 11

Posted on 01/02/2007 9:57:39 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - (very out of date) Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

He is turning into a really nice horse. Hoping to get him to some app shows this summer to see how he does. Everyone at the show today really like him :)

The pony express tribute is life sized and I've been watching it for three or four days fighting the tarp :) Horse and rider seem to be taking it in stride - not as dangerous as indians I guess.

I bet he gets a lot of attention at shows. He’s really pretty.

Nope, they don't canter like that. She is working on rating him so I don't know if that's what she was doing there or if she'd just cued him into a canter. She puts him in a canter from a walk part of the time and has him working off his rear end.

I was trying to watch them and get pictures and talk to a couple of other people at the same time.

Everyone liked his looks today but were most impressed with his attitude. No fuss, no hollaring, working in the ring with mares (some in heat) and geldings. The stallions in the halter class earlier all acted like fools so there was a big difference. Most Tuffy did was occassionally look at you with what Kelly’s daughter calls his shark eye, sorta don’t push too far type look.

Well that’s great, particularly for you to say so... since you never really liked him ;~)

It sounds like he’s going to turn out real nice.

Yeh, I have to admit he’s becoming a good horse although I don’t think he’ll ever be as much a favorite to me as he is to Bob and Janelle.

He’s turning into a really nice horse, duchess. You should be proud :-) I’d do without the fake tail though... A tail like that look wrong on an app. :-)

Sometimes you just catch them at a funny moment.

He's beautifully collected though - very compact and balanced.

He's looking good -- where are y'all headed ultimately with this training plan?

Crap, what a morning this is turning into...

I just went out to feed, and was filling the dog bowls and laying right next to one of them was a copperhead...I had to kill it. Then when I went to feed Rocky, there in the corner of his stall was a baby bird, didn’t even have it’s eyes open, sitting on the ground chirping...I can’t find a nest to put it back in...ahhhhh...I hate these sort of things....There is just nothing PC in the animal world.

Good Morning.

Duchess, Tuffy looks so good. His acting like a real gentleman at the show around other horses, sure is a big plus for him. Is that statue of the Pony Express rider near your home? That is so cool.

How ironic that a filly won the Belmont Stakes and the special about Ruffian was on last night. If anyone missed the movie, a DVD is coming out on June 12th. It was a great movie, with such a sad ending, that made me cry, even though I knew what would happen.

It is a gorgeous day and Alison is showing today, so I will be heading there in a while. I need a break after working on the eye sore yesterday. Moved more rocks and started to till the dirt. Bigger job then I thought.

It’s a hard world for the little things. So much drama.

Good morning... we’re going out to breakfast at the truck stop :~) Back in a bit.

It was raining here earlier this morning, so I went ahead and did my grocery shopping. It’s not raining now, so I’ve got my horse saddled, oh, but lordy is it humid now. Not sure I’m even going to do much more then maybe in the arena. Lope a few circles, back...and be done.

It’s kindof shivery and drippy here :~\

Forgot to mention that Tiffney stopped by yesterday, said she planned on riding Tell again today. I told her to report back :~)

Good morning. I so agree with you on the fake tail. I dislike them in general, but really dislike them on an app.

We just want him trained to do western pleasure and to excel in that. He already is trained for halter, just needs the weight back to compete there. We eventually want to stand him at stud but are of the opinion that a horse needs to be able to do something except look pretty. He’s too young to do any other training right now - maybe a two or three years we’ll see if he likes reining or cows.

No, he won’t be going to OK. The trainer friend is going to go to the youth show the last week of June but not stay for the Nationals the first week of July. It will be too expensive to underwrite a week of the trainer’s time for one class in the Nationals.

The pony express monument is in Moundhouse overlooking Highway 50. It's about 15miles past there to my house. It's a cut out of iron/steel ?? like the ones you see of cowboys leaning against a wall, etc. A silhouette.

The afternoon is better, altho I'm not certain I would call it blessed:)...it's so humid. After just 30 minutes in the arena I called it quits. Shoot, Harley broke sweat just doing the warm up walk around. It felt more like we were swimming.

But he did great. He does resist the right lead a bit, and I've always thought that when doing the flexing he was a bit more stiff going to the right, so we will be working on that. He backed well, sidepassed, and was generally good enough to stop after 30 minutes.

Duchess, well, darn, I was sure hoping you all would have made it, but I sure understand about the expense. That would be a lot for just one class. Maybe you can plan on being here with all of us in Oct. Then you could meet all of us:)

Hair, did I miss something...has Tiff only rode Tell once and this will be her second ride? How does she think he is doing, and does she like him? What does she think of what you've told her about how Kat is doing?

Harley after his work out. He was so hot, that after he had stood awhile I did hose him off, now he is standing till he dries.

Becky
