The FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread! - Thread 11

Posted on 01/02/2007 9:57:39 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - (very out of date) Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

Beaker, Frog is totally right. This last ride I went too, I went with a very negative mind set. I just knew I could not repeat my last ride....I knew I was going to screw up, and guess what I did:\...The funny thing was, I knew my mind set was all wrong, but I could not stop/fix it...I swear there is more pressure coming back after a great ride, then after a bad one:).

Anyway, keep positive thought, and you’ll be fine.

Becky

LOL...

It’s funny and scary what our minds can do to us. Takes a lot of discipline to keep them in check, I lose it once in awhile:)

I am so sorry to hear about Cindy. She had a good, long life and was well-loved. Having had dogs all my life, I know and understand what a big part they play in one’s daily life. I still miss my Chico though he has been gone many, many years now.

I remember seeing it too. I think that was the first time I had been exposed to an unhappy ending for a horse.

May the cold front at your place be a short as it was here. Back to beautiful weather and warm temps.

Yeah, worrying about things is a big waste of time and energy and it can literally make you sick. Back when all the health issues were going on with my Mom, I was worrying about it so much that I was almost at a point of emotional meltdown, but I’d just stop myself and tell myself to leave it in God’s hands and it would all work out, and that was a tremendous help. It was like I got this great sense of peace and I could quit obscessing about it. So I try to keep that in mind about day to day worries too. And some people may think that you shouldn’t pray about seemingly trivial things, but I don’t think that anything is too trivial to ask for God’s help with. If it’s important enough to worry you, then it’s important enough to God.

I really didn’t mean to get off on this tangent, but there you have it. That’s how I deal with stress and worrying.

You guys are right, I need to breathe and relax. It'll all be O.K. :-) He hasn't done anything really stupid with me, it'll be O.K.

Hair, I've been lurking on the Horse.com forum, and came across the stallion thread. Holy moley! is all I have to say about those two people with the stallion issues.

Ruffian was a super filly. She broke down in a match race with Foolish Pleasure, who had won the Kentucky Derby that year. She didn’t fall when her leg snapped and the jockey tried to pull her up. She went into surgery and they did the best to save her. She was just too high strung and fought the casts and slings.

I have some of those critters too! This is the first time, I have seen them build in my barn.

This is the fence I picked up at Home Depot for only 4 bucks. Just the right size and keeps the dogs out of the garden. These are tomato and pepper plants. You can see my crappy old A/C unit they are going to remove. I had them put the new one on the other side of the Florida room.

Bay’s feet look very good. So happy he is doing so well for you. Lots of years left in that boy.

Will you send some of that rain this way?.

Wish I could. When we were in North Carolina last weekend, it was very dry. Some fields were being irrigated with those big long armed sprayers. Tobacco looked good, but the cotton was poor.

Here a shot of the border in my trailer. I thought it was pretty neat.

Other side with the drop down feed doors and the 19' awning he gave me instead of the a/c. I still have not unrolled it.

This has been my project the last few days. This is an island along side my driveway. I have posted pictures of the phlox that are in the front of it before. Lots of work, but I am so please with it all. I moved all those rocks from other area, put down mulch and planted Impatiens. More mulch needs to be put down, but its too hot and humid out and I am just taking it easy in my A/C.. :)

This where I moved the rocks from. This has been such a eyesore. Daffs bloom in the spring, but the bed is so hard to maintain. My septic tank is under all that. I think I will just plant some small shrubs to hide it when I get the rest of the rocks and dirt moved.

Thanks, lots of hard work in my lifetime, now I am going to enjoy it. Almost forgot to post these. The poor horses can only be out for a few hours in the morning. The bugs are so bad, all they do is hang around the barn.

Nasty storm warning out, I better go batter down the hatches!

Yeah, I’m glad she went peacefully in her own back yard which she loved. I’m just sad she had to go.
