The FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread! - Thread 11

Posted on 01/02/2007 9:57:39 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - (very out of date) Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

Naw - I don’t think it’s virtue - I just don’t think the flowers taste good. ;~) I’d have worried more about it but I’ve seen them sniff and then ignore other flower planters in the yard lots of times... they didn’t even eat my corn when it was growing.

Course, she could still make a liar out of me.

Well, only the skin came back white. The hair didn’t come back much at all. But that’s ok. Maybe the skin wil darken up over time. If I was more diligent about keeping some ointment or a moisturizer on the scar it probably wouldn’t be as white and scaly as it is. But I can’t even remember to put moisturizer on my own legs, much less a horse’s leg, so there’s not much hope in that department! ;o)

Absolutely! Just when you think you've got 'em figured out they'll prove you wrong.

It may close up around it a little, but it might not! I’ve seen other scars that look just like it years later.

Yeah, Bob would too, after he’d pulled all the flowers up and rooted half the dirt out. He’s worse than a puppy about tearing stuff up. He about jerked one of the windshield wipers off of the Jeep not too long ago when I wasn’t looking. I try not to pull in the pasture very much anymore.

I was just browsing around over on the Horse.com forum and came across the thread you posted over there about Bay’s new shoes and realized that you’d never said, or I missed it, if the new farrier had been back or not. Has he?

Well hopefully he’ll be as good about scheduling as he is about shoeing. You’ve GOT to get some pictures of HIM this time. I gotta see that tat on his head.

It sounded like everybody over on the other thread thought he did a real good job too, so that always makes you feel good. But the fact that Bay really seems to be moving great, even on rocks, and hasn’t had to have any Bute this year is the real proof of a job well done. I think you got a keeper there.

Any more news on Kat?

Nothing new to report... we may go on a trail ride Saturday... if that plan can be firmed up. Bob on his new horse Barney... Tiff on Kat.

I am real happy with how Bay’s doing... He has farrier in the morning, and vetting in the afternoon (shots and checkup)... I hope both show up!

I’ll be interested to see how TheNewHorse does for Bob. Has he really ridden him yet or will this be the first time since he got him?

He’s been on one trail ride, with my landlord, before he bought him. Word is he’s a kind old school horse, but rather green on trail issues.

Do you always have the vet come to your house? I always just load mine up and take them to the clinic to save the farm call charge. I think my vet charges $50 for a farm call, in addition to whatever else he does. What does yours charge?

To: FrogInABlender

I think he charges a base $25 for coming.

He doesn’t have a clinic, he’s all mobile :~)

When needed, he does have a barn at his house for ICU... and when he needs a surgery, he rents (or has some arrangement) from another equine vet.
