This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
It was on the Horse Forum that I read about not using Nitrofurazone below the knee. I think it was that Ryle person, seemed credible, but I did a google search and found lots of sites saying Nf would prevent proud flesh, so who knows. Not me.
I do like the aerosol spray powder Nitrofurazone better than the goop. It dries weepy cuts and dries to a powder instead of attracting dirt like the goop.
Only trick is getting the spray ON Bay, who thinks the aerosol can is going to kill him.
I’ve heard of that Granulex.
I figured an “equine” vet would probably want to stitch it, but I’m not even going to try. With all the wet and mud, and rocks, I think it will be fine with good doctoring.
I’d like to shave the hair, but I don’t have clippers, and I’d be afraid to try with a razor.

Oh dear... Sending good calm vibes to Julia...
We came to the same conclusion about the cable phone service. Our TV and internet is already the same source, we didn’t want all our communication eggs in one basket.
I do know that I had been using Nf in the gelding’s sheaths to soften the crud that they get up in there, prior to washing it out with Excalibur, but somebody on the Horse.com forum, and it may have been that same person, told me that you shouldn’t use it on penile tissue because there had been studies showing that it could cause cancer there or something like that, so I quit doing that. There’s been some good information on that forum from time to time.
Every Hunt seat rider, I have seen, always lean somewhat at those gaits. You look very nice and that big ole horse is such a sweetheart. You don't look funny on him. Thanks for posting the videos.
Here's what it looks like: Furall Aerosol Powder by Farnam
I used to get Green Soap at the drug store for cleaning out the sheath. Which brings me to a question. Bodie rubs his tail quite a bit and I did notice that his sheath is pretty dirty. Do you think he might be rubbing because he is itchy down there? He has been wormed, so I don’t suspect that is the problem. Gosh, I hate to do that job.
Me either. They are going to offer cell phone service, but that won't be until the end of the year. I really should have one when I go riding. Yesterday, I gathered up all my old tack and will start some cleaning. The only thing I have put in the trailer is the new saddle. It rained on and off yesterday and it is very cool today. There is still quite a few things that I will need to buy. Thank goodness, the daughter works at a tack shop.
That's a terrific benefit!
I knew it was something bad, but I couldn’t remember what it was. Thanks for the Furall link too.
LOL, I just had to raz you a little bit. ;o)
Well, it wouldn’t hurt anything to give him a good cleaning so give it a try and see if that’s it. If that doesn’t do the trick then he may just have dry itchy skin on his tail. Hope was rubbing quite a bit and I put some of the Calm Coat on hers, right at the roots and it seems to have helped some.
LOL! :-D I was really trying to sit up, I swear :-)
That is a nasty looking wound and probably should have a few stitches in it, but it is probably too late now. Aren't diapers useful? You might have to add some Elastikon over the bandage, especially at the top, if it doesn't hold together long enough.
