This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
Here is a link to his web site.
Thanks for the link. I am looking forward to more pictures of your trailer. We would like another steel trailer, just not as heavy as ours - 8000lbs empty. From what we hear, aluminum is a pretty bouncy ride on anything but pavement.
Great pictures. Levi is a big horse.
Wow, he is a big horse:)
You look just fine:)
Becky
Yup, he’s big. I feel like a flea on an elephant. I’m nervous as heck about this clinic, but I think that if I get on him a couple of times this week before hand, and really talk to my trainer about this, I’ll be ok. I think. That was the second time that I had ever ridden him. He’s a sweet horse, he really is, and he isn’t mean, he’s just a wimp and really does a good job of convincing himself that things are going to eat him. That’s a long way to fall is all. :-) It’s a good opportunity though because he’s a 3rd level dressage horse. (I’m certainly not riding him like one!) He looks really really good when my trainer gets on him.
You’ll do fine :) Have a talk with him and explain that he needs to take care of you during this clinic so no sudden movements :)
I think you look fine on him! I agree with you on those stirrups... with your stirrups down a bit, you might actually feel like you can get your legs around him!
It gave us a chance to go over some of the new obstacles we've made from the downed logs. Here, pony is checking it out and holding up the whole show.
We practiced the CTR "stand over the log" test :~)
Pony being bad...
ecurbh practicing his pony cutting.
~ONE~ pic of me... about to come up out of our little ditch...
Sooo - the Walkins are moving again. I'd love to be a fly on the wall sometimes.
I don’t think they’ll make it through summer. I don’t think this is a good sign.
Did Bay do the stand over a log test? What did he think of it?
They were at his dad’s place. Doesn’t sound like they have his blessing.
I didn’t ask Bay to stop over it. I should have, but I didn’t think of it. ecurbh thought to try it... and she did fine :~)
She’d probably have stood there for a dismount and mount, it didn’t bother her to be there.
The pony rattled her a bit today, she was running around trying to egg Cyn on... like “come on, play with me!”
She looks like a CTR champ to me:) Did you count to 5?
Next trick, get her to side pass down the log...Open division has to do that sometime.
Did Pony step over it in the picture she is holding you up?
Becky
I’m going to bring them down at least another two holes. The problem that I had last time was that they were the right length, but I had a lot of trouble posting to his trot at that length and I couldn’t get my legs back. This was a different saddle and he’s so high up that I couldn’t gauge right from the ground. (The stirrups were at my chin from the ground) I’m going to get on him a couple of more times this week (try to at least) and play around with the stirrups a bit more.
Actually, I counted to 10! :)
No sidepassing yet, we’re still working on that skill.
Pony did follow us over every time :~)
I was wondering the same thing - did Pony step over, jump over or go around.
Great pics Hair. Cyn looks bored with the whole log routine. That’s great. :-) She’s a super horse under saddle.
