The FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread! - Thread 11

Posted on 01/02/2007 9:57:39 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - (very out of date) Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

Oh, I like those cushions a lot better too:) Very nice, the whole thing. So does it have full living quarters?

Sorry about the mishap:(, that would be rather disappointing to happen so fast. What’s a gator?

Well, we’re going to ride today. We don’t want to go up in the woods, we also want to have time to clean the barn, but I want to ride my own horse :~) We’re going to school a little here at home. We set up some of the logs we’ve cut up in the back forty, new obstacles. :~)

Well you have a nice ride:)

With the chances of rain today, and no chances after today, Mack is off, but will work tomorrow, so we are spending today together:). Besides I gave Harley his WN booster this morning, so I think he probably should be off today. I’ll ride tomorrow tho while Mack works. Mon, I’m taking a drive up to see my dad.

What’s a gator?

Those big chunks of rubber left on the road, when a semi blows a tire. It is CB/trucker slang. If I would have taken my CB, I would have heard a warning. It was just so unavoidable. One thing, I did not have put in the trailer was mats on the walls. We have some belting here, that I think will need put on. Pawing and kicking horses will put up the wood.

Becky, it has a toilet, sink, hot water heater, bed over gooseneck, cupboards in bathroom, over sink and in nose area. There is what they call a "Cowboy" shower in the first stall. You would take a shower in there. A hose hides away in a compartment until you need it. Nice day/night shades, which I really like. The places I normally go, don't have hook-ups, so I just couldn't see the expense of all the other goodies. We had AC, microwaves and all that in other trailers and hardly ever used them.

Yes Hair, a horse will "poop" in there...lol

Ah - never heard it called a gator before. Rats!

I do understand... Hope you get it rubbed out, we don’t like scuffs on brand new trailers.

Well, it sounds really nice.

I never heard blown tires called gators:), never much been into CB slang:) I can see how it could be an unavoidable situation.

Here's a screencap I took from video of bay the other day...

He's really moving nice. His big trot is as good as it's been in years.

Here's the video, if it'll play nice. I reduced it in resolution so maybe it'll stream nicely.

Oh - I forgot to tell you about the monster. :~)

Bob and Kay got a new puppy, a miniature Schauzer. We’re going to dog-sit it for two weeks at the end of June when they go somewhere.

We forgot to take any pictures last night... too much chaos probably :~)

Mirror was highest on the list (so I can check my non-existant makeup of course) for signalling. :)

My ex preacher commented that women use 4 times as many words as men during a day. He didn’t seem amused when I suggested that was probably because we have to repeat everything 4 times.

I bet that Kat would be fine once you trailered her off the property and got away from those nutty yelling screaming horses. She sounds like a horse that knows that she has a “job” to do, and will do it once she doesn’t have any distractions.

“He was a firearms instructor for many many years, probably the first 10 without hearing protection at all.”

How the heck did he do that? When I go to the range I have to wear earplugs and micky mouse ears otherwise I'm in agony.

Well everyone, I have good news and bad news. The good news is that I got pictures AND video! The bad news is that I won't be able to get them off of the camera until tomorrow or Monday. And, I'm not sure that I want to show you the pictures because I look absolutely ridiculous on him... I look like a 5 year old on a 15 hand horse. (That in itself is not ridiculous, but me on a 17 hand horse is!) I was horrified at how small I look on him. (I AM small, but this just magnifies it) I have a huge welt on the side of my stomach from where I got a saddle rub when I got off of him. He's so big that I slither down instead of jump down, and ugh I got myself good. It HURTS.

My trainer also played a dirty rotten trick on me. I didn't want to tell anyone here, but I chickened out of the clinic that I was going to do because I didn't think that my abilities were up there, there were a couple of things that I wanted to work on before I rode at this upper crust barn in front of upper crust people. Well, today she says to me "Oh, by the way, I signed you up for the clinic and you're going to take Levi."

Great. Looks like I didn't get out of that one so easily. The bad part is that Levi is afraid of EVERYTHING, so going here should be interesting.

His trot does look nice:) I really think it’s time for you to put your worries to rest about him. He’s got a lot of good years left:) He seems to be getting more and more fit every year you have him.

How did Cyn do?

Two weeks with a young dog....he/she will probably seem more yours then theirs by the time they get back.

Good Morning.

Thunderstorms this morning, which should cool the temps. It has just been too hot, for this time of year.

After we cleaned the black marks off the trailer, there is some scratches and paint missing by the hot water heater. I emailed the fellow I bought it off of and hopefully he can send me some touch up paint.

Good morning. I really like what I saw of your trailer. I think I missed this or forgot - who is the manufactor? We would really like to get one if we can find one that doesn't cost and arm and a leg - and is configured like we want. I'd love to see more pictures of it.

Very hot here too, definately need a break in the weather. Rain would be nice but we don't often see that. Have a great day.

Aw - bummer that you need touch up paint so soon... Tough to break it in that fast.

Thanks about Bay... I think he’s looking great too... and of course I like that.

We ended up doing a rather thorough cleaning of the barn yesterday... all our tools which had been used and never really put away so we could never find anything... well we got it all reorganized again. Blew our energy wad though, and we didn’t ride. There’s always today eh? :~)

I look forward to the pictures Beaker... I’d love to look small on any horse, so you don’t get a lot of pity from me :~)

Bummer about the welt though. ;~\
