I understand about trying not to complain but I can’t help it, either. It’s getting really depressing. My property is standing water, the mosquitoes are swarming, and it’s humid as all get-out. We haven’t even gotten in the pool this summer and we are usually swimming by the end of April. All this rain and cooler night temps are keeping the pool water chilly.

Ohhhhhh. I like Becky’s suggestion of separating her from her buddies. Mina gets really herd bound but if I separate her for a few days, she gets over it.

Well, I’d stop eating all the “diet” foods. Eat the real stuff, even real ice cream is better for you then the diet, sugar free stuff.

Other then that stuff, you sound like you are eating just about the same stuff I am, except for the fruit. I’m not a fruit eater. I eat a lot more vegetables.

Sounds like you just need to up your serving sizes. Do you weight? If so, just start eating more and don’t freak if you see yourself gaining. Get to where you want to be and just eat according to what the scales tell you, more or less.

Oh, I knew that...I just think this is an excellent example of what not handling a horse regularly will do for them. Bob should know better, especially since she was for a kid.

I think Jessie is interested, but I don’t think she goes out independently. I don’t know how to assess that.

She just goes with the flow... and with Bob, that flow can be fairly scattered and unpredictable. There’s no routine at all... very disorganized, even finding a bridle to use and a cinch and which pad is like rifling through a flea market, picking through a pile of gear.

I’d do everything differently, and it’s hard to even talk to Bob... he can’t hear anything any more... everything has to be said 4 times.

I haven’t been weighing every day, that’s probably part of the problem. By the time I weigh myself, I’ve lost a couple more pounds. I think a lot of this is psychological, I do freak if I see myself gaining.

LOL my dad is the same way. He has a hearing aid but doesn’t always wear it. He doesn’t think he needs it.

Bob doesn’t wear one either.

I think they tried to get one, but the type of hearing loss he has, it doesn’t work real well, like it turned up all the white noise and he still couldn’t hear over it.

He was a firearms instructor for many many years, probably the first 10 without hearing protection at all.

LOL...sounds like Mack:), I find it interesting how older men always seem to lose their hearing where as women don't...HMMMMMMM...what does that tell us, and one of Mack's favorite cliches are, "If you don't use it, you lose it"...well duh...why'd you lose your hearing:).

Anyway, back to Kat...I've seen situations like this so many times...drives me bonkers, because I think horses are about the best thing you can do for a kid:), but when they are younger it does take a parent who is willing to work with the kid, motivate them, and help them along. With a parent like Bob, one the kid either finally loses interest from lack of cooperation from their parents, or they land up getting hurt, and never getting over that. A lesson once a week won't do it, IMO.

It would be very nice if the horse could come to your house and Jessie could come over often. Do they live close enough for that possibility? Would you even want to mess with a kid? It can after a while become a drain, especially when it's not your own kid.

Well, you do know that at this point you either need to stop losing, and maybe even gain a bit...so don’t freak.

Pick a goal weight, and stick with it. Weigh every day.

See another man who doesn’t hear.

Anymore if I’m talking to Mack, I just stop talking till he finally tears himself from the TV and looks at me:)...I think he hears, it just doesn’t register.

That’s good advice. Thanks.

I think it would be good for Bob to get that into it again, get organized, get to where he isn’t trying to remember where all his stuff is. He hasn’t ridden regularly in a long time either, and stuff gets piled on other stuff, and pretty soon, if you aren’t using all that every day, you lose it... or it gets buried. Mentally too.

I think the lessons she’s getting are top notch.... The teacher she’s going to is terrific with kids. And horses. She was an Arab judge for years. Now mostly giving lessons to kids.

The other thing that’s going on is that Kay’s also in the picture, and she’s got Jessie scheduled so tight she’s moving all the time. Trumpet lessons, Alpaca meetings, last night, Jessie wasn’t even there, she was at a slumber party. I had thought she was going to be there, lol.

So Jessie getting up here regularly? I doubt it. And I probably couldn’t do better lessons than Phyllis. She’s real good, even if it’s only once a week.

Well, I hope it works, but it really sounds iffy:\ You can spread a kids interests to thin.

LOL...I was telling Mack about our conversation about men and their hearing problems....he said, the problem is, women just wear their husbands ear drums out:), they can’t possibly listen to everything we say:)

Heh... ecurbh and I have our own hearing issues with each other, and I don’t think the problem is the ears...

We both get to staring at screens and tuning everything else out. We end up repeating everything too. We have to say “Ahem! Hello? I need you (your attention) right here!”

I think it’s a little early too, for Jessie to do more with horses... she’s only what... 10-11? When she’s 15, it’ll be a whole nother story, she’ll have a lot more control of everything, including the horse, and her schedule ;~)

Exactly...I think that’s the key...if I remember to make sure I have his attention, he hears me, but sometimes I’m just talking, and he does respond, but then later he doesn’t have a clue what we talked about.

Good Morning. We made it back safe and sound. Ben got off work early Thursday and we left around noon, made it to just outside the NC border, spent the night, drove a couple more hours, picked up the trailer, left there around noon and got home a little before 2 am this morning. We hit DC at 5:30 pm on Thursday and that was a real pain. Bumper to bumper traffic. We came home another route. A couple of bad storms on the way home in Virginia, while I was driving and that delayed us some. With the price of gas, I can't believe there is still so much traffic. Truck handled the trailer very well, even going up the mountains.

Hooking up at his lot. Nice place, almost like a TSC. They make the trailers there. Lots of farm equipment, tack shop, just about everything.

These are the cushions I ordered. Much more to my appeal than the cowboy ones.

Already it has a boo boo. After I passed a semi, I took my eyes off the road to look in the mirrors to get back into the lane. There was a big "gator" in the road, that I could not avoid. I hit it with my front right wheel and it flew back and hit the trailer. You can see it hit the battery first, then came back and hit the hot water tank. The black marks will come off with some rubbing.

Dented the hot water tank door, but we should be able to straighten that out. Just about made me sick.

“gator”?

That’s such a gorgeous trailer... I can understand the heartbreak of marring it. Just remember, a horse is going to poop in it next. ;~)
