The FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread! - Thread 11

Posted on 01/02/2007 9:57:39 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - (very out of date) Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

Back from the show and Alison did awesome! PJ is such a wonderful, steady old trooper. He is hard to beat. Alison won Hi-Point. The show a few weeks ago, she really didn’t win Hi-Point. They made a mistake on the tabulating, so they were not going to give her the trophy this week. Amy said Bull, she won it fair and square. Alison didn’t even know, until the lady in the booth told her. We decided that we will take the other trophy back then, at the next show.

First in Western Showmanship (14 in class).

First in Western Pleasure (16 in class). Alison talking to her Grandma in Florida, while MaMa is loving on PJ.

She also won a third in Trail, third in English Showmanship, second in Western Horsemanship and fifth in English Pleasure. The weather was perfect, high 70's, light breeze and sunny.

She’s just the cutest thing I ever did see. :~)

She’s going to be hard to beat by the time she’s 15.

Hey, yall.

Congratulations, Becky. Hopefully it will dry up soon and I can get back on a riding schedule. Mud...Yuk.

Duchess, I have a Bob question. I was watching "Top Cowboy" last night. Did you see it? The had a test of breaking a wild horse in 45 minutes (they say). 2 Did. The first got his horse calm, got on it and took a few steps. The second had a lot of problems but he got him saddled and on then went for a buck ride around the round pen a few times and won. What's up with that? The other guy's just stood for him, walked and stopped for him to get off.

All, I started a pot garden. I am really excited about it. I have 4 little green tomatoes:') jc

We actually saw that show too... never seen it before.

I think that guy won because he actually gave it a full ride. The first guy’s horse didn’t move, and he got off before anything could go wrong. I could defend that myself, but the other guy was bolder.

Thanks:), It was really too cold for snakes to be out, especially on Sun. But a few weeks ago when it was warm I was seeing them occasionally out on trails.

Yes, it’s a private ranch, but it is owned by a corporation. It has 30,000 acres. It’s huge.

It’s kind of neat, This was the 32 year this ride has been held there. It was started before the ranch became a corporation. The man who originally owned it, John Zink, liked horses, so altho the ranch is now closed to public use for riding, since the old man liked horses, they still allow this ride. It’s the only time now horses are allowed there. Before the man died he built a huge building with plumbing to hold awards and meetings in.

Some years back they use to hold dirt bike races there to, but that has all been stopped now. There is a Boy Scout camp ground on the ranch, and a shooting range. It is a pretty neat place, it’s just too bad it can’t be used more then it is. But I understand why they don’t allow more...we humans can sure leave some nasty messes behind. Sad.

The Foxtrotter in the picture did not compete. He wasn’t ready. The other fox trotteres all do pretty good. Most go in the Open division. In fact one of them got 1st in the heavyweight division. So I guess they can do pretty good.

There are quit a few gaited horses that do compete.

Becky

Thanks! We are pretty proud of her. We came home and she had to jump on her pony and go for a ride. :)

I don't know. I've never watched it but it seems like the no bucking should have won. Maybe because the second guy got farther along in the 45minutes?

Girl, I'm so glad you added the part about the green tomatoes. I started reading that and thought What??????

After my years in the south, I see a water moccasin or a cottonmouth behind every blade of grass and hanging from every tree. I had some close calls with them and learned to avoid any place where they might be.

I see a future Rodeo Queen there :) Do you all have rodeos in your part of the country? That just occurred to me, it might not be a big thing there.

Funny:')

This guy though... I thought he should have won too. Yeah, the other guy had to "cowboy" more but it would seem that getting on your horse without him throwing the saddle a couple of times and bucking would be better. Go figure.

Good Morning.

The correct cushions came in and my trailer is ready for pickup. Of course my SIL started a new job this week and we can't leave until the weekend. The place is open this Saturday, so we will probably leave Friday.
