This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
That’s great about the farrier coming so quickly! It sounds like he really knows his stuff too. He’s definately a keeper!
Lovely pictures... lovely spot!
Good... I’m surprised that as long as he was there, he didn’t just do the whole works.
Oh geez Becky, that’s a bummer.
I’m impressed that you do your own feet. I’m not brave enough to do that.
Well, I wouldn’t have done it either if I hadn’t gone and taken some hands-on training. The NB videos helped tremendously too. I researched it as much as possible on the internet and I watch my farrier as much as I can when he’s doing the two that are shod. I get him to critique me every now and again if I have a question. But it mostly just boils down to DOING it, on your own time with nobody watching, getting comfortable with the tools, and knowing when to stop.
OK, Jenny came to visit this afternoon, and I got her to take some pictures of me working Harley on the ground...the sponge and string:), and lunging. I'm hoping to ride after supper, I'm going to the creek to throw in the sponge:)
Anyway here's some pictures. Harley flexing. I'm not kidding, it is amazing what this does for a horse, expecially doing it from the saddle.
The first time with the sponge today. He made this one jump sidewise then stopped and was fine.
These lunging pictures I know look a bit goofy:). Still photos don't give the full effect. You can see in this first picture he is starting to disengage his back end and start to stop to turn. As soon as they stop and face you, you squat and point to their other hip and they go. If I just stand straight and still he walks to me.
Then back to the sponge.
Watching it splash in the bucket.

Great pictures of your lessons today! Great action!
You think that’s it for him jumping about the sponge or are you still going to do it again in the creek to be sure?
I don’t understand your question???
I’m going to the creek tonight to do it there.
Becky
Your trail pictures are beautiful.
I’ve never seen a stand like that to help hold the horses foot. Does it clamp on some way, or do they just rest there...that would take some training??? to get them to keep it there.
Becky
What, I’m not making sense? ;~)
I meant do you think he’s “over it” as far as spooking at it, or were you still planning to do it in the creek to be sure.
Oh, OK...:)
I expect him to jump around a bit, but I don’t think he’ll get crazy over it. He’s doing fine with it on the ground.
I didn’t make it this evening...had some thing else come up to do, and now I’m ready to watch 24.
I sure hope the finale is good, this season has been a bit slow, IMO. I’m thinking it may be just that it’s I’m use to it. But a lot of the characters haven’t been all that great this year.
I’ve been very disappointed in the finale’s of all the shows we watch except for Desperate Housewives:)

Friends of the kids were over and the girl is a barrel racer. This is the one Amy was going to teach how to ride pleasure. Amy had Biscuit saddled and was working her and I ask Tammy if she wanted to ride Bodie. She had offered to work him for me while I was recuperating. Then I decided, I was going to ride Jodie and go with them. Alison went too and we had a nice ride. Muddy as heck in the woods and the 4-wheelers had made it worst. Good training for them going through all that mess. Bodie did well and went through everything Tammy asked him too. He is just so green. This was the first time Jody has been ridden this year, but she did well also. I will feel it tomorrow!
Glad you got out on a ride... Glad they did good!
Ahem... pictures? ;~)
I feel the same way about 24 this year. I don’t like any of these people. (’cept Jack). Well, a couple more hours till it’s over and maybe next year will be better!
Time to go lay down now, catch you all tomorrow.
Well that’s great that you got to ride with them.
Becky
Prez also did not do too well but that wasn't his fault - his handler/rider was spaced out (my great niece) Not paying any attention, just waltzing through the day. Her uncle Bob was not happy.
Anyway, Tuffy took a 4th out of 6 and a 5th out of 16 (he beat Prez here - Prez didn't even place in Color Halter). Prez took a 2nd out of 13, didn't place in Color Halter or Youth Halter, took 2nd out of 16 and 4th out of 7 in two of his riding classes, didn't place in the last riding class.
Those are beautiful pictures :)
I am amazed at your trimming expertise. What is that thing that the horse is resting it’s leg on? I’ve never seen anything like that.
