The FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread! - Thread 11

Posted on 01/02/2007 9:57:39 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - (very out of date) Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

Well once again congratulations to your son. I’m sure you’re very proud:)

Tuffy looks wonderful. It’s just amazing how far they can come in a short time. Good luck at the show!

Good Morning.

Duchess, congrats to your son. May he always be safe. Tuffy looks so nice under saddle, good luck at the show.

Becky, the fire ring and lounge look like a really cool place to "hang". I am getting excited for you now. All the bumps have been smoothed out and you are good to go. Yay!

I emailed the trailer man and he is going to reorder the cushions. It will be another 2 weeks. :( I would rather wait, then have something I am not pleased with. Like Cindy said, it looks like little boy's pj's.

My daughter had called and said Alison had not placed at the Youth Show, but was having fun. PJ broke into a lope in Western Pleasure and the judge marked her off. The classes are very large with 20-30 in each one.

Congratulations to your son, and to you. It’s kind of like you were going to school too, wasn’t it? I was exhausted after my son finally graduated.:’) Tuffy looks great. Aren’t you liking him at least a little bit, now?

Good morning, Thanks MT.

I think I’d wait the 2 weeks too, for something that expensive, I’d want what I wanted:)

Well, Harley is saddled...so I’m off...hopefully I can make it at least 3 hours.

Good morning... I’m still just having coffee :~)

Drizzly here. I hate to complain, one of these days, we’ll get the last rain for awhile and it’ll dry up.

Well there is a 2 hour difference.

We had a great ride, and did 3 hours. I’d have went longer, but Grizzly was with me, and he was really dragging. First time I’ve seen that dog tired. But we have been going a lot and he usually goes 3 times farther then I do from all the running off trail he does....He didn’t do that today. I stopped a few times by water for him to lay in it and rest, but he still seemed wore out. Tomorrow I’ll lock him up here so he can’t go.

But we did do lot’s of trotting and loping, lots of transitions. Today and tomorrow are about stamina work, Mon. and Tues we will do slow stuff AND go to the creek and get this sponge on a string thing resolved.

Well, I had all of the above typed out and was ready to post it, when I noticed Harley out the window really watching something. I got up to see what was going on, and do you remember ChoctawSquaw...she rode up. She was trail riding with a big group, they were going on up the trail next to my property. So I tightened Harley’s cinch back up and took off again with them. We never caught up with the group. Rode about an hour then came back here and visited a while, now she is heading back home...take her a little more then an hour. So Harley got about a 4 hour ride today:)

LOL...don’t jinx me:)...I’ve never felt as ready with this horse as I do this time...If I can just hold on to my brain during the observations, we should do pretty good.

Hello everyone!

Lousy weather here, heavy on the fine drizzle. I went to the barn anyway, as Max and his mom came to the house first, he was hell bent on riding. He showed up wearing jodphurs and boots with gloves, and he was so pleased with himself! I rode too, even in the drizzle. It was a good ride, so it was worth it!

Good morning.

What an exciting Preakness race. I had Curlin picked for the Derby, but I would have liked to see Street Sense win. Hair, I had been outside mowing during the day and came in to lay down for a bit. I didn't put the pc on and didn't see your live thread until later on in the evening.

Kids are home from Columbus and Alison didn't win anything at the Youth show, but she had fun and it is a good learning experience for her. Pj doesn't seem to like the indoor arenas there. The other boy who used him last year had the same problems with him, acting hot.

Rain today, so I am glad I got the mowing done yesterday. Good day to relax.

Hi everyone.

went on a trail ride today with a couple of other ladies and got soaked to the skin. It has been raining on and off, and it started sprinkiling when we went out, but we figured that we would be in the woods and stay more or less dry. We were so wrong! We came back soaked to the skin when the sky opened up and poured. Bleh. Had to give the tack a good cleaning and oil.

Hey that is great! Not the getting soaked to the skin, but that you got to go on a ride. It has been doing the same here, cloudy and dreary. No big down pours though.

I remember once when I got caught out in a down pour with Okie. I got drenched. Cooled me off though:’)

I didn't mind getting wet, really, except that I felt it when I got off because I was wearing jeans. It was a warm rain. I rode Oliver, who is a fantastic trail horse and will go through anything. Part of the trail was flooded, and we went through a piece of water on the trail that was deep enough to sploosh and splash through through while the others went around it and he didn't bat an eye. One of the other girls took him out last weekend, and she said that he was full of enough vinegar so that she was afraid of him, so I was expecting some fireworks but I had no problems.

Next weekend my trainer wants me to ride her warmblood, but we'll see if I actually do it. He's over 17 hands and is afraid of his own shadow. If I do, there will be pictures.

Congrats on your son’s graduation. You must be very proud of him!

Tuffy looks great. I can relate to the “where does the money come from” dilemma. I’m going to owe my mom a nice chunk of change from Deuce’s training this year but he needed to get finished. Looking for a new, better paying job to help get this done.

Regardless of where you end up showing you’re going to have a lot of fun with him.

Good Morning.

I hope everyone had a nice fun filled "horsey" weekend. Kids had friends over for 4-wheeling last night and they shut down at 10:00 pm, so no complaints.

Dreary day and looks like rain.

I found this to be an interesting survey. I enjoyed reading the responses of the others who answered...

I’m so sorry for this, but I have to rant a bit...

Went out to saddle my horse and he has a shoe hanging half off....

I’m not really “mad” at the farrier, but...I just don’t think he understands the amount of miles over rough terrain I put on a horse...I knew when he reset Harley’s shoes last time I should have said, I want new shoes each time. The problem I’ve always had with resets is the nail holes waller out so much and the nail heads wear off, that the shoe comes off the nail’s. Now I have to worry about the half still nailed on, breaking hoof wall off if he hangs that loose shoe on something...
