The FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread! - Thread 11

Posted on 01/02/2007 9:57:39 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - (very out of date) Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

Well I told her yeah, her feet might drag the ground, and she said that would be OK as long as the horse could carry her.

A 12 hand welsh would be too small for her. I'm 5' tall, and that size is too small for me. It wouldn't be comfortable for her or the horse. Next thing you know, she'll be trying to ride a mini! ;-)

Hey, I’ve never seen one of those, that would be just perfect. I had to google it to know what it was. I found one at Country Supply for 17.99. I might just order it.

Hi all.

Looks like my attempts to go to the barn have been foiled again. It's raining, an is supposed to rain through till Saturday. I'm doing a dance to the sun gods, because I've already received a call from Max's mom about what my trainer does when it rains (cancels, we don't have an indoor) and if she has to cancel, we'll have one VERY unhappy kid on our hands. He's coming down for a visit on Memorial Day weekend, so if this fails, I'll just take him to the barn with me then for a ride.

Sounds like you’re getting what we had last week. I’m so sorry for the unhappy kid. I know how he feels, but it’s worse for a kid.

Actually, there's isn't really what I had in mind, because I think it would flop around just like a horn bag. I guess what I really use would technically be classified as a CANTLE bag, but I use it as a pommel bag. I just tie it across the front of the saddle from breaststrap D to Breaststrap D. Country Supply has those too, for $5.99...

You can kinda see it on this picture of Bob. I made mine from a fanny pack, but it's very similar to the one at CS. I think theirs might just be longer...

I bought a fanny pack too to put stuff in, and was planning on tying it to the Cantle, but it doesn’t work there. I’ll try it as a pommel bag. I never thought about it there.

HMM. I don’t know if I like it either. Maybe on sheets or little boys PJs?. Make him show you what he can do so you have options. I do like the color of the cushions though:’)

Good Morning and happy Friday!

Beautiful morning here, sunny and temps going to be in mid 60's. If there was not the chance of frost in the next few days, I would plant my flowers. Night temps are still getting pretty low, so I do not want to take the chance.

I emailed the trailer man and let him know that I was not too happy with the cowboy pattern. Hopefully, there are other options. For some reason the link for the pattern options is not available anymore. Maybe he is having a problem with his suppliers.

Cute hummer! Good job catching and holding her.

She had quite a story to tell the coffee klatsch when she got home . . .

Add my vote to the "I don't think so." It's just not the right pattern.

The one you describe sounds better. Put a dry cleaning bag on the cushion or don't use it so it stays clean . . . and have him send you the right pattern when it comes in.

Good morning, btw.

Was supposed to ride Wed and Thurs - it POURED and lightninged and thundered both days, oh well.

Rain days are a good time to clip, pull manes, re-dye scruffy tails that are supposed to be black, etc. . . .

Good morning all. Rainy and chilly here but we do need the rain after about 14 dry days.

Was good to finally get back on Whitey at home after the show. He had been at the trainers for about 6 weeks along with Deuce because he needed a tune up. Hard for me to keep him sharp after a few years with no ground person at home.

Hopefully your trailer man can get your the pattern you want. Substitutions like that can be very disappointing.

LOL...yes she did.

It was very difficult holding her, It didn’t feel like anything in my hands, so it was hard to know how hard to squeeze when she was trying to get away. I was afraid I would crush her, or break a wing. From the way she took off tho, I think she was fine:)

Good Afternoon. JP is here today, and we've been outside playing all day. He's napping now. We went on a long walk thru the woods, came home and played in the front yard. We rearranged some stuff in the yard. Before:

After: I even moved our fire ring, and burned a few sticks.

JP trying to drink out of the sprinkler:)

And he learned how to spray water from his mouth:) He wasn't close enough to get me:)

Anyway, it's been a fun day, but I'm tired now, I'm glad his momma is on her way to get him:) Grandkids are great.

Well since this has been sitting here all day, I’m taking it:)

Anyway, well, I just realized that a week from today I will be at the ride...yikes, kind of snuck up on me.

My plan for the next week is...A good long fast ride tomorrow, and Sunday...hopefully 3-4 hours each day. Then Mon. and Tues will be short easy days just to keep his mind right and body limber:). He’ll be off on Wed. Thurs, another loosening up day, and bath, and packing. Fri morn. the farrier comes, as soon as he’s done, we’ll leave. Get there set up camp, take a short settling in ride, Then vet check in and let the game begin:) I’m planning all this riding the next week because remember he was a bit of a pill on Sat morn. at the last ride, after a week off, and some high powered food. I’ll not make that mistake again. I use to ride Belle every day the week before the ride.

Tomorrow and Sunday, are the last “real” condition rides. After that, I’ll ride but they will be easy ones.

Becky
