This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
You’re having loud parties huh? tsk tsk ;~)
I just came in from working with Harley on his lunging. He’s doing that very well.
We also worked with the sponge on a string. I got him to where I could throw it from behind him on either side, and reel it in and bump it up his leg...do you think he’ll tolerate it being done in water. He pretty much seemed to go to sleep today. Even when I pulled it up by his face.
I wouldn’t think doing it in water would be that big a deal now. Kristy is suppose to come ride here later this afternoon, I think we’ll go down to the deep water and try:)
Becky
Hmm... If you’re unsure... take a bucket of water and dip it... That would at the element of it dripping on him.
Make sure she’s got the camera when you go out this afternoon :~)
Look what I found in the back forty :~) I almost stepped on momma when she fluttered out under my feet. She was sitting on this. I left it alone, save for a picture. :~)
Good morning.
Are those eggs on the ground? What kind of bird? The only kind of bird I know that lays eggs on the ground are quail, and kildeere. I know those aren't kildeere, and I didn't think a quail nest looked like that, but I don't know for sure. You'll have to keep an eye out for when they hatch. Could the horses step on them?
We had a pretty good ride, it was rather short, Kris was late getting here. We did get to the creek and had a test run on the sponge on a string. He still needs work with that, but he didn't completely freak. He doesn't pay one bit of attention to it bouncing along the ground or being pulled up his side when I'm standing next to him. I don't know if what is bothering him is it floating, or me not being there beside him. I'm going to work with him on the ground some more in a puddle on my driveway:)...I may even ride down to the creek in shorts and just get in with him. It just makes me very nervous when he starts going sidewise, and I'm trying to hang on to him, and the sponge. I don't think he'd go far, he didn't on the ground. but the creek is a tight place, bad footing once you get off the big flat rock, and a big drop off on one side, which is the direction he was going....
Trying to get him to look at it.
And here he finally bumped it with his nose and when it bobbed around, is when we headed for the deep water. But then of course it was "chasing" him. I got it reeled in and decided and need another place to work with him, or something...
The Kris tried...Rowdy handled it like any 15 year old roping horse would...didn't bat an eye.

Those are great pictures! He looks like he’s getting it... it wasn’t quite as serene as it looks, though?
The bird was a little sparrow type brown bird - it’s a little off the beaten path from where the horses usually go, but I could go put a little fence around it to make sure :~)
It wasn’t serene about a second after that second picture:)...it wasn’t BAD, he just took off sidewise towards a drop off, that I’m not sure where it’s at.
I’m trying to figure out how to break this down into some baby steps...??? any suggestions.
Becky
I think your ideas are good... if you can get in with him next time that’s what I would try :~)
Have you done it with a wet sponge at home, like with the sponge in a bucket, and squeezed it out on him?
No, but that is something I’m going to try before taking off today to the creek.
Becky
I think Bay would have a bit of a problem with that part... I poured water on him once from my water bottle, and he was so surprised it took him about 1 second to snort and spin around :~) ooops :~)
Had our first horse show of the year last weekend. Things went fairly well. I showed Whitey in half Arab Western Pl AOTR and he got some decent ribbons and was reserve champion. Was told by many that they disagreed with the judge and would have had him winning his classes. I was just really happy with my rides.
Link below has proofs. We’re the first and third on the top row and there are some head shots of him below.

Mom showed her horse in dressage for the first time. Only showed walk trot as this was his first time in the ring and he won both classes with nice scores. No proofs of them available yet as it was a different photographer.
Got the word that Deuce is gonna go showing in June. Yippee!! Can’t wait. It’s been a long time coming.
Congratulations:) Very nice pictures.
Good for Deuce:)

It’s been a long time now since we’ve heard from our Alabama folks.
HELLO? HELLO?! HELLO!!
Everyone OK?
I just sent Frog an email to her work.
That’s good. I’m starting to be a bit concerned.
Becky
I had to run Susie to the vet for an allergy shot, and nail clipping, now I’m off to work with Harley and ride.
Macks here, maybe I can get some more pictures.
Becky
Hopefully she’ll check in.
Duchess hasn’t been around much either, I notice, but I have seen her today at the horse forum, so she’s OK, she’s just not ~here~
We're going on a trail ride this afternoon. It's nice, but taking a while to warm up!
I did hear from frog... she's been overwhelmed with her mom moving to an assisted Alzheimer's facility, but she's OK and will check in soon.
Well, good to know she is OK.
I’ve been out in the arena with Harley, a water trough, and the sponge and string....I think I’ve got him as good as I can get him with that. I’m going to go ride him a while, and may try going to the creek, or I may come home and work in the arena with him again only this time be on him. I’ll just wait to see how he feels.
You all have a good ride...it’s really warm here, upper 70’s-low 80’s.
Becky
