The FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread! - Thread 11

Posted on 01/02/2007 9:57:39 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - (very out of date) Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

I am a believer in Miracle Grow :~) The horses aren’t eating that new grass, I think because it’s growing in still fairly freshly dumped poo... but that’s good, it can get good and established, maybe... I’m going to let it grow, see if it will survive and reseed itself back there.

I hope you get to go riding tomorrow. We’ going up to work on chores at the beach house. spreading gravel I think. We were going to go for a ride today but ecurbh had a conference call for work right in the middle of the day and then we didn’t have the gumption. I guess we’ll go monday.

Well, I wasn’t missing riding today. I have some errands to run this morning too, then we have some things to do this evening, so to for sure get a ride in, now was the time.

You know what, I think I have a perfect horse:) he just gets better and better.....LOL...great ride. But the trails are in such bad shape, not many places to go without running into nasty sucking slippery mud.

Good Morning.

Not much planned here today. Sort of over cast. Kids and their friends took 4-wheelers in the back woods trails yesterday. It is still very muddy and I was hoping it would have dried up enough, to go on a trail ride.

Have a great weekend you all!

Well I had a good barn day. My trainer says that I had a good ride, but I don't think I did. :-) Tammy was dragging my arms out of their sockets, and I was trying very hard to lighten up her forehand and get her to carry her own head, but it was a job! *whew* She did a fair racehorse imitation at the canter though, I nearly lost my seat.

After my ride we had a girl with a developmental disability come to the barn for a ride. I have experience with therapeutic riding, so I stayed to help my trainer out, and I'll probably be helping her out with it from now on. It was definitely a two person job.
After that we went and looked at another property, and it's quite lovely and homey, not so up and up that I feel like I'd have to go out and buy new breeches and boots just to fit in. :-) We all really want it.

:’) Sounds like you had a fun day. I have to go to the 28th, then I get my life back. This seasonal project I took on for extra money is taking way too much of my time.

Today was Work Day.

My 16 year old son helped me clean the gutters, blow off the roof, and remount the weather vane on the cupola. I gave the roofers the bolts and caulk to do it right, and of course they just stuck 4 10d nails in the corners. Pigs. I shall complain to the management on Monday.

We did it right with lug bolts, a level, shims, and plenty of caulk.

That’s LAG bolts of course. Lug nuts go on tires.

Glad you’ve got a perfect horse... what more can a gal want?

Sorry about the mud though.

Good Morning.

Did you all catch the Rolodex jumping and dressage competition last night on Animal Planet? Beautiful horses and very brave riders. A couple of riders did take a dirt nap. No one was hurt, thank goodness.

Kids had friends over for a campfire and rode the 4-wheelers around the back. Neighbors called the police on us, that there was a Loud Party going on. These were the same ones who told Alison, they were going to call the police, when the goat went over there. Older couple, who everyone in the neighborhood think are crazy. We have been in a dispute with them for years over property boundary and they have been a real pain. The people who used to live in our house, had problems with them also.

Oh, that’s to bad...What did the police say/do? Lots of times they will know someone like that, that calls all the time and complains, and just make token visits.

They were real nice and just said there was a noise ordinance at 10:30. The one 4-wheeler is pretty load and they had shut that one down earlier. The one cop said, he even passed the place because he didn’t hear anything. They didn’t even have music playing and there was a least 4 young children out there. Yes, those neighbors are a real pain, in the you know what.

Happy Mother's Day!

Nice day here and the kids went to a horse show. I don't know if I am going to go or not.

I feel for you with the situation with the neighbors. Some people just can’t stand it that others have a life and may have a little fun......

We are going back down to Aiken on Wednesday to do our electrical walkthru and pick fixtures etc. It’s really hard to do. I am so confused about everything. The house is supposed to be done late September and I don’t even have mine on the market yet !!!

I am really getting excited about our move. It will be a whole new life for us. I just hope it all goes smoothly.
