This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
Don't you have a baby coming soon?
Yep, Friday is due starting February 7th. Up through the 21st. About all we can do is hang heat lights and close up the barn. That's not going to do much except cut the wind. I really would like to wring Bob's neck for breeding so early.

Well, who knew you were going to have such a bad winter.
:) Now you sound like him. He's right though that noone would have expected the temperatures we are getting and for the length of time we have had them.
A winter baby here will be exciting. It's been awhile.
I don't know - maybe not an icepick but an instrument for making tatoos. Facinating to see the sophistication of the cloths and the horses bits and saddles from so long ago.
"Tuffy - we never got to see yours, whathappen?"
I'm having trouble with my picture program. Hubby is going to have to take a look at it when he gets a chance. Pictures are terrible anyway, I didn't get a clear shot. Fences and trees in the way of the action.
Bud has stopped his amorous behavior. Stopped as suddenly as it started.
Your frigid cold front is going to hit me first. supposed to start rolling in tonight, we are on the edge of the ice storm warning. I bet Becky is already getting it.
That is sooo cool that your picture made the news!
I haven't checked the horse.com forum to see what Guido is up to lately. I asked him how he makes a living, he said training and clinics. Let's see, he lives on Long Island, not exactly a hotbed of equestrian activity, he has 3 clinics listed on his schedule and it doesn't look like he owns his own facility. Going by his online behavior, he insults nearly everyone with his know it all ways.
He's either a liar about how he makes his living or he enjoys living in poverty.
"LOL! Sounds like an interesting afternoon! She must've smelled particularly alluring today."
Cracked me up.
Yesterday when I brought them up to feed I noticed that Winnie has a ton of junk dribbled down her back legs. I know most of that stuff is hers (I probably need to hose Bud's chest off, the way she was squirting) but I wonder if Bud was shooting blanks at her. Do geldings do that?
Well, it's 18 degrees here this morning, so I think that is "Holy Frozen Horse Apples, Batman!" cold.
I just gave the horses a hot grain mash breakfast and had to tote hot water out from the house to fill water buckets. That's the biggest bummer of cold snaps.... toting water.
Bay loves a hot mash, he just buries his nose in it and nibbles slowly at it. The pony sucks the water out of it first then eats it... Cyn fusses with it like she's not sure what to do with it. If Bay doesn't run her out of it and steal it, she may still be licking around it at noon :~)
Everyone ok this morning? looks like the weather sliced through overnite and is now coming through north texas.
Guido hasn't been around in a couple of days .. I keep hoping he'll do the stupid thing and actually start speaking again .. It was kinda entertaining .. hehe
All the snow is gone, but raining and going to be close to 50 again today! Great on the fuel bills. Diesel is at $2.44 and gas @ 2.14.
Duchess, yay for winning a prize.
Hair, that is so cool, the picture on TV.
I used to fix mine warm bran mashes .. is a grain mash different? do you use bran?
I don't have any bran, I just pour hot water on their regular grain mix, which at the moment is about half senior pellets and half COB. I measured their buckets last night and brought them with me so I'd have 'em.
I pour on quite a bit and make a soup.... it soaks most of it up by the time I get out to the barn.
Oh, cool. When I lived in FLA, we routinely gave bran mashes because of the amount of loose sand the horses ingest while trying to graze. I've never fixed a grain mash. I guess using half pellets helps make it "mashy".. :-)
Dang, I forgot my pingy. In a hurry, because I have a man coming to look at repairing my shower, this morning.
