The FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread! - Thread 11

Posted on 01/02/2007 9:57:39 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - (very out of date) Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

..I have seen some pretty ugly headed TWH's that is for sure!...

Yep, and you and I both own one. Poor ol' Queen and Truly are definately not going to win any beauty contests. You sent me a picture you'd scanned of both of them standing side by side for a "Like Mother Like Daughter" and I was going to post it but I can't find it. Do you still have that one you could e-mail me?

What in the HECK are you talking about? The only thing I've seen here lately that was winking was horse twats and SURELY you're not talking about that! LOL!

A friend of mine who did a lot of bird hunting had two Plantation Walkers (not the ‘big lick’ TWHs) and they were nice horses who did exactly what he wanted them to do — carry him and his wife out to the birds in comfort. They were steady to gunfire, very easy to handle, and incredibly smooth to ride. Cute personalities, too. I liked ‘em!

I wish my mare would quit doing that every time a gelding walks by . . .

. . . one of the problems of owning an ex-brood mare. Hope springs eternal in the equine breast ... or whatever.

LOL!! They are pretty bad about that. Heck, I was trimming Grace’s back feet a couple of days ago and all of a sudden this GOO comes splashing down on my foot and I had to get out from under there real quick because she was SQUIRTING on me...for no apparent reason...and then she just stood there in “the position”, winking. I finally just had to push her on the hip to get her to stand up straight. I don’t know what brought that on. Maybe the vibration of the rasp on her foot was giving her the jollies or something. But whatever it was, it was a bit of a surprise. I’ve been crapped on before while I was doing back feet, but I don’t think I’ve ever been squirted on. LOL! I guess it’s just that time of year.

I used to like to field trial quite a bit before all the land around here got sold off and divided up and I was always very impressed by the field trial Walkers. They all seemed to have this HUGE ground-eating stride and would keep it up all day, through high weeds, mud, briars, you name it. You could tie a dog to them, shoot off of them, drop the reins and ground tie to go flush a bird or what ever. I don’t know how they get them that way, but it was pretty awesome.

YOUR horse is named Grace too?

We just need one more, then we can have The Three Graces.

I don't have it here at work, have it at home. Queen and Truly don't have bad heads compared to some of the TWH I have seen. Those older styled ones have some pretty big, roman nosed heads.

You're bad! ;o)

I need to find something to get that yellow out of it. It would look so much nicer if it was whiter.

I have ridden Queen in a field trial and she was steady to gunfire. She is a pretty good old girl once you catch her.

Dang, I’d hate to see one with a bigger head than our two. But they’re pretty to us and that’s all that matters.
