Yes, roaning is color. I told the lady not to register for awhile - wait until the baby is about six months old. I have to get current pictures of Slick for you. He had the spots on his rump, now getting white over his barrel too. It really is a crap shoot with appaloosas.
IHO, it’s easier to get off in this position...
I thought of you tho when he was doing all this....eeekkkkk....he stood on her finally. Just for maybe 5 seconds, boots and everything....:\
He said a lot of things I really liked, that confirmed what I thought:)...the thing I really wanted most to give a big whoo hoo to was, you lunge for respect, not to make one tired, and not to get the buck out...YEAH...I can forgive him for standing on his horse after that:) And making a horse change directions often...gains more respect then just letting them go in circles. Most of the time his horses only go 1/2 circle before he changes their direction. When saddling a horse for the first time, that is the ONLY time he allows them to buck, and they can buck as long and hard as they want. After that never again, after that he said he’s never had one try. They learned they can’t get rid of it. This surprised me too...the first time he saddles them, once the work is done, they are turned loose in the arena with the saddle on and they wear it all day. He wants them to think it has “grown out their back”. When he checks them in the evening if they are still acting like they don’t like the saddle he leaves them till the morning...He said the longest he has ever had to leave one on was 2 days. Altho that would be hard for me to do, if I ever started one, I can see the logic in all of that, letting them buck only the first time, leaving it on for so long.
He also said, that horses can actually have only 2 problems, 1. fear 2. lack of respect...all “problems” can be traced to one or both of these to things as the cause, and the fix is the same for both. When people bring their horses to him to fix a problem, he lets them tell him what the problem is, but he said it goes in one ear and out the other. No matter how the problem is manifesting itself in the horse, he just does this same routine with all horses.
The horse that had a loading problem...a big loading problem, he had the owner try first...the horse would not even get close to the trailer, hadn’t in the 6 years she had owned him. They had to tranquilize the horse to get it to this clinic. CA had it in the trailer.... running to get into the trailer from 20 ft away by just pointing, in 30 minutes...
You should look up to see when his tour is going to be in your area and maybe at the end of this season they will offer the same deal they did last year, buy one get one free...I thought it well worth going to. Altho Celia crapped out...We didn’t get out of there till 7, and she had told me at 5 she was ready to leave. She’s not coming today...rather be with that fellow of hers’s...geez...52 year old, and would rather spend time with him then go watch horses...I’m shocked I tell you, shocked:)! I’m going by myself this morning, and it’s time to go...see you all tonight.
Becky
Sounds like a great clinic, and I like watching him get horses into trailers. I like what he said about lunging, but cringe that he stood on her back. Have fun today
Interesting post about the clinic... looking forward to more tonight!
I just had something funny happen. Yesterday when I was out walking I noticed one of my cats staring intently at something. I ignored him until the dog went over to see what was going on and saw her grab something and it started squeaking. It was a new bunny family, eyes not even open yet. One was dead but the one that the dog had in her mouth was still alive. 5 total. I brought them all in the house, looked up how to take care of them and have been doing it since. One of them opened his eyes today. Anyway, I went to the pet store to get some tiny bottles and nipples and when I was checking out, the register girl started asking me questions. She said there were rehab people that could take care of them. I said if I decided I needed help, I would call her and get some names. She said she was a rehabber and proceeded to read me the riot act about how to take care of them, don’t let the dog bark at them or let the phone ring because they would have a heart attack and die. (if being in a 75 pound black labs mouth didn’t give them a heart attack, I doubt a ringing phone would, but I didn’t say anything). Unsolicited advice is one of my biggest pet peeves and this woman was a total nutjob.
Hey Frog, I’m scanning through some of the earlier posts and saw the one about our mom. I’m so sorry ya’ll are having a rough time. An assisted living center would be ideal for her, I bet.
Hey - long time no see.... good to see ya.
Got pictures of your bunnies?
It was a great day today at the clinic. I’m not sure what I liked the best today, but one of the most truly awesome things was when he got his horse Mindy out and worked her first on the ground, and then under saddle....You know that video of the dancing dressage horse....Mindy was doing all of that stuff, forehand pivots, hindquarter pivots, sliding stops, he could get her loping in perfect circles with her head flexed to the outside, and other things too, all on very very loose reins and no tail switching:). It was incredible.
On the ground work, with no halter, no lead rope, they looked like ice skaters together. He could get her to do roll backs, by just pointing at her hip, she sidepassed away from him and towards him, no halter remember, she walk trotted, loped along side him, every move he made she made the same next to him.
It was really cool.

Something else he said yesterday that he does, that I whoo hooed:).
Any horse that he is working with, gets caught and tied up at 8 in the morning. Stands there till it is worked, after it is worked it’s hosed off, given a drink, then tied back up till 5 that evening. Even the older broke horses, if they are being used, they stand tied.
Becky
Very cool :~) Sounds like a great thing to see.
I’m just going to have to watch for his clinics in this area, he sounds great. I like what he says about lunging and bucking. I also like the tieing part - that’s what the trainer is doing with Tuffy more or less. The only time he’s out of his stall is when he’s being worked or standing tied and she leaves him standing tied while she works the other horses.
Not yet but I’ll get some....
I haven’t been on the computer much lately. I’m trying to lose some weight and it seems like when I’m on here, I’m thinking about food. Why do I always want to be munching something when I’m chitchatting? Also, it helps me to stay really busy, working outside, cleaning house, anything but sitting. So far, I’ve lost nearly 20 pounds.
Mindy is really incredible. After he got done riding her, he asked if anyone had any questions about her specifically. He said she is more famous then he, and people always wanted to know things about her.
One lady asked if some light spots on her back was caused by a saddle. He said no...He bought Mindy while he still lived in Australia. He he moved here permenantly he had her brought here. She had to stay in quarantine in L.A. for some time, I didn’t catch how long. But when she got out, she had lice and a fungus so bad that they left permanent bald spots on her...He said he has tried everything over the last 9 years to get hair to grow back, has tried every old recipe he has heard, so far nothing has worked.
I wanted to raise my hand and ask if he sued, or at least got something out of someone’s a$$....good lord.
Becky
Boy, I’d have been furious about something like that. I imagine he is making his point by simply telling people what happened but I’d have tried real hard to make sure some people were looking for new jobs.
Hey tuffy:)
Good for you on the weight loss:)
My morning is starting out great:), FINALLY, just this morning I have reached my goal weight!!! I’ve gone from 167, size 14, to 135, size 8:), 32 lbs total loss. It’s taken me 10 days to lose the last 1/2 lb, but just this morning I did it:)
Becky
That’s awesome, Becky! How does your husband feel about your weight loss? Mine is like a kid in a candy store. And really, I feel better about myself so I’m enjoying being the candy. :)
I went from 138 pounds (I’m only 5’3” so every little pound shows) to 120, size 10 to size 3 or 4, depending on the style. I wanted to get down to 115 but I’m getting a little ribby so I may stay at 120. I could still lose 5 pounds out of each chubby leg but it’s not happening, I keep losing where I don’t need to lose.
I’m off on my daily walk, be back later....
By the way, last time I talked to you, you had lost 22 pounds. You lost that last 10 pounds fast!! How many calories do you eat every day? Are you exercising? I walk for an hour, 7 days a week.
Well, I’m only 5.3 too.
When I first started, I kept my calories at 1200. Then after I’d lost about 10-15, I started weaning that back, just a little at a time. For me if I cut too much to fast, I can’t stick to it.
I’d say right now, I’m at about 900 calories a day, which feels like plenty and I stay very satisfied.
No, I’m not exercising. I tried walking, but between the weather and neighborhood dogs, I just couldn’t keep to it. So other then riding, which I have been doing a lot of, that’s about it, and I’ve never thought riding was all that beneficial for weight loss. It might tone up some muscle, but I don’t think you burn all that much calories...I’ve never noticed that it helped.
I have come to believe that if you eat good balanced meals, exercise is not all that important. Because even years ago when I was at 125, I never got into any pant sizes less then a 10, and now I’m at 135 and am in an 8 very comfortably. I even have a tiny bit of muscle definition in my abs. I’d say I burned off fat, and retained/built some lean body muscle just eating properly.
What does Mack think...well, he tells me he thinks I look great, he’s happy that I feel better...he’s been very encouraging, mainly because he knew I felt bad mentally and physically before and he was sorry for that. I guess at our age, it’s not so much we look at each other for how we look, as much as we are glad we’ve both gotten healthy, and have a better chance at still being around for each other for some years to come:) That was our main goal to get healthy, not so much to “look” better. Mack has lost 100 lbs, over the last 2 years. More people have commented about how he looks then me. You know tho, some people are just rude, and mainly I’m thinking that applies to family. Before he lost all his weight, people commented to me all the time about how he was so heavy, blah blah blah, now his mother, and my dad, and several friends have told me he looks old and sick...I get so pissed...I think he looks great, and healthier. Yeah we look old, we are for heavens sake...
Anyway, I just had to vent a bit about that:), it’s really bugged me and the next person that says anything about him, well...I may slip back into my aggressive aggressive mode:)
Becky
LOL...it didn't feel fast, I thought back in Nov. when I started I'd be done by March...3 weeks ago I had 4 lbs to go, I told Mack, I was so sick of this that I was going to loose that in the next 2 weeks or I was cutting an arm off to get it done:)...Well I dropped 3 1/2 really quick, and then that last half lb. played with my brain:)...I'd be 135.5 one day, then 136.5 the next, then 136.0, one time not changing a thing I jumped to 137. I was ready to kill myself.
This morning I got to wake Mack up aT 6:30, WHOO HOOING:). I stepped on and off the scale 4 times, and it was at 135.0 and one time it even read 134.5, so I'm there:) I really think one of the best things you can do to speed weight loss, is drink lots of water. I'm drinking 5-6 20 oz bottles a day. I crave water...can't get enough. I don't have to force myself to drink, I want it now. That took a while to reach, when I first started I'd drink about 3 bottles a day, over time, it's just sort of increased on it's own. Becky
