The FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread! - Thread 11

Posted on 01/02/2007 9:57:39 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - (very out of date) Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

Good morning.

The bad storms missed us last night, but we did have some rain. Cooler temps are in store.

The manure is in a big pile now and yes it is a problem. When we only had two horses, the manure was spread around behind the barn or put into the garden all winter. The very wet summer and winter made it impossible to spread. Now with 5 head there is a lot more manure. In smaller piles, it will rot pretty fast. Flies are a nusance and we try our best to keep the populations down with traps and strips.

Just got in from riding. Had to cut it short, we got rained on:). I’m not “soaking” wet, but I’m fairly damp and cold. We did about an hour and half.

I was surprised that when I untacked Harley he was wet everywhere but under the saddle:)...We did lots of hill work and had them sweating pretty good before the rain hit. But anyway, he is not sore anywhere and doing fine.

And did he behave today? No more of the surging sideways hopping business I hope?

We’re getting rained on a bit here too. Good grass-growing weather. Good thing I mowed yesterday :~)

Sounds like you are going to get some severe weather.

Harley was fine today. He couldn’t have cared less when Celia got way ahead. I let her several times just because, and he was fine. He was walking good. We didn’t do much trotting. We stayed around the creek to do hills, it was close to home:). We didn’t want to get to far out in case of rain. Of course we didn’t get the rain till we had decided we were safe to go ahead and go out a ways tho:). It was really more a really really heavy mist more then rain.

I know they said something about severe weather, but I don’t think it will happen. The temps just aren’t getting as warm as they said, well at least right now they aren’t.

We are fine, the tornado warnings, as far as I heard were in counties pretty far from here...we are under tornado watch...we are currently getting rain, thunder, and lightening.

That’s a great picture. At lest he wasn’t too drunk to take off the horse’s saddle and bridle :)

I went to Walmart and guess what I forgot? I don’t know if I want to post or not though. Cocoa is gone. She and Cindy tore a picket loose and only Cindy came back. I figure someone took her because she has tags.

Oh my - maybe someone will return her, or she’ll come back on her own. Do you suppose Animal Control picked her up? Boy, I’m sorry about that. I have to admit, as much grief as some of these dogs give me, I’d hate to lose one of them.

No we checked. She’s mixed but she looks pedigree. I told my husband this was going to happen. Cindy , who doesn’t get out does this when we bring home another.

Yeah. They kept getting out. We were going to buy her A shock collar that day. Would you believe Cindy hasn’t tried to get out one time since then. I really believe she dumps dogs!

That could be. I had a cat once that used to bring stray cats home. Animals are strange and smarter than we give them credit for.
