This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
congratulations to Alison and Amy :)
I think she figured we couldn’t kill her :) if she kept skipping away. We don’t feed her treats but I’m pretty sure grain will work - that’s what we will try. The breeder has mentioned before that she had a hard time catching Friday when she moved her into that pasture. I thought at the time it was just because Friday didn’t know her. Now it appears she’s just being a juvenile delinquent.
Boy she is a beautiful dog :)
Oh, I want one of those. I could probably drive that and not break something :)
LOL...I don’t know you can break a lot of stuff with those things, including yourself.
I’ve made 2 mistakes driving ours.
One time I was moving dirt around in the arena, I had scooped up a full bucket of dirt, and was raising it up to drive up the arena to dump it. I was looking up the arena deciding where I was going to dump it, forgot to take my feet off the pedals that raise the bucket..it kept going up, up, up, till it finally dumped the whole load right down on top of my head...I was buried to the waist in the cab.
Another time I was trying to knock a big dead tree down. I finally had gotten it to break about 8-10 feet above the ground, but couldn’t get the stump out. So I back up pretty far, aimed the bucket at the stump, and took off as fast as it would go. When the teeth on the bucket hit the stump they just stuck in it. And before I could react, since the bucket was locked in place, and the wheels were still turning because I was still giving it gas...the whole cab somersaulted forward, till I was just hanging from the safety bar:). I let off the gas and reached up and turned the key, then had to hang there a few minutes till I could figure out what to do:)
They’re fun, but they take some practice:)
Becky
Heh... (makes notes not to do those things)
I'm terrified to touch the tractor. The one time Bob asked me to move levers while he was standing in the bucket 8 ft off the ground, I almost dumped him by going the wrong way.
Maybe the other buyer’s check bounced.
. . . that sounds like the sort of things I would do . . .
Glad you're o.k.!
“Dirty blonde”? What kind of color is that? Courtney Love?
Shelley: 'O what a good dog am I!'
Ruby: 'Hey! What's going on over there?'
Shelley: 'Hey! I don't know!'
Ruby: '< snicker > Made ya look!'
Ruby: 'OK, that's enough good dog for one day. I'm outta here.'
Believe me, coming from this woman that makes sense :) I figure she’s a pale sorrel, chestnut like Sam is, but I’ll get pictures when I get up to see her.
You know, I have about decided that labs are the clowns of the dog world :)
You mean nobody warned you? < g >
I believe Bob’s sales pitch was how smart they were, what great retrievers they were, how easy they were to get along with, etc. So far, I’ve only seen evidence of the fact that they retrieve anything :) I’ll admit though, they sure are pretty dogs.
When we were rebuilding our barn 2 winters ago, I had to raise and lower Mack in the bob cat for him to put the tin on the roof....I tipped the bucket the wrong way a few times...never far enough to dump him , but far enough to get dirty looks:)
Becky
Thanks:)
Becky
I contend that Bob did not give clear directions to begin with, and he should have let me have one or two practice moves beforehand. It did scare the daylights out of me though, he ended up safe instead of pinned to a hay stack simply because he moved fast.
Celia called earlier this evening and said the forecast is saying the rain won’t get here till after 12:00 tomorrow afternoon now, so she is going to be here at 9 to ride.
I’m anxious to see how he does after a days rest:)
Becky
This is a stupid question, but I really don’t know the answer. Where do you move the manure to? Doesn’t it attract flies etc. Without composting what does one do with all that sh—.
