The FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread! - Thread 11

Posted on 01/02/2007 9:57:39 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - (very out of date) Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

What's adverse possession? Is that anything like "squatters rights"?

The action that she's taking is that she's building a fence that goes right up against the garage such that they can't get around the garage on that part of the property. (Does that make sense?) The fence also goes around all of her property. She's fighting with them to take the garage down. And the worst part?
The neighbors TOLD her that they were going to plant bushes and oh yes, put up a swing for their grandson. When she threw a fit they told her. "Oh don't worry, we won't use ALL of it. (It being the land) Those people are going to end up right in her living room!

His length of stride is about the same then and now, he has a very active back when he trots so there's a lot of movement going on. I don't see any heavy nodding or frank signs of lameness.

What I notice particularly is that his rhythm seems to be better now. He's a little herky-jerky in the January film, a little tentative maybe? but in April he's stepping out in a more regular beat. Perhaps more firmly as well.

Adverse possession is an old (common-law) land law. It varies from state to state, and I have no idea what the law is there.

But basically what it means is that if (1) somebody else occupies your land for a time period, (2) you know about it, and (3) you don't DO anything about it, then they own it .

She doesn't need to be quarrelling directly with the neighbors. She needs to put this in the hands of a lawyer RIGHT NOW and get him to send Nasty Letter Number 1. If the garage is too close to the lot line, they won't want to move it. They may apply for a variance from the local zoning authority. Again, I don't know what kind of rules that body may have.

The lawyer will advise her on the best way to deal with this. If she doesn't have one, tell her to talk to a judge or lawyer or a good businessman that she knows and get a recommendation for an attorney who deals with land line matters. DON'T GET SOMEBODY OUT OF THE YELLOW PAGES!

Well, it’s OK whenever you can get to it... I was just curious about what you might see :~)

Thanks, AAM... What I saw in person, I’m not sure is as apparent in the film. I wish it didn’t look so bitmappy. I thought he looked flatter today... flatter movement, flatter knee action, but I do think that might translate into a smoother look you see. The more ‘herky jerky’ movement might be some of the flippy higher trot I’m used to seeing, I think he used to have a longer moment of suspension.

I do think he looks really sound. The little moments of head bob or unevenness in all the films I think can be attributed to either the slick wet grass or the slick areas where there’s loose hay on the ground. I was just curious to know what you saw... the more I watched the films, the less I was seeing till I wasn’t sure if there was any real difference at all. If there is, it’s subtle.

Picked up Belle tonight - a beautiful little 8wk old chocolate lab. Pictures tomorrow I hope.

Looked at a horse and foal on the way to the airport, thoroughbred mare with appaloosa filly. Mare is skin and bones, foal not much better. Don't know if we'll get her or not - no papers, two more mouths that need to be fed.

Breeder who has Friday and Sam and BamBam has lost three foals now and a horse being shipped from midwest hung in it's trailer. What a tragedy for her. We ran into one of the vet interns at the airport, picking up shipped semen.

Another friend just emailed today, lost a new filly today, born last night and wedged under a fence somehow.

Going up Saturday to see Tuffy - sounds like he's doing okay. The trainer really likes him and enjoys riding him.

So, anyway, maybe tomorrow I can catch up and catch you all up :) - I'll try to see the video at work Hair and give my opinion of Bay's movement :) (he moves like an Arab)

Wow, that is all so sad. Do they know why the three foals died.

Looking forward to seeing pictures of Tuffy. Will you get to see him being rode?

Well the lady from the horse forum canceled:) Somehow that doesn’t surprise me, that’s usually what happens when most people call and say they want to ride.

Can't wait to see pics of Belle!

Should have some pics of Ruby this weekend . . . she's going to be force fetched :-( . . . one of those unpleasant necessities. But we'll make sure she also has lots of fun with bumpers to take the bad taste out of her mouth.

That sounds like a really bad string of luck with the foals -- is there any connection between the deaths of the 3 with the breeder? Trailer hangings are something that has always worried me, there are so many things a horse can get caught in no matter how careful you are - we used to have one kid ride in the hay rack up front, but that's not really safe either and about all you could do is bang on the wall for the driver to stop . . . .

Good Morning.

Finally, a nice sunny, warmer day! The weekend looks very promising. Kids and I went out to Red Lobster last night. My treat for their wedding anniversary on the 20th.

Yikes, whats happening with all the losses of foals? Is there anything in common between them?

Oh dear... rescue mare and foal?

Look forward to pictures of tuffy. :~)

Morning. I haven’t been to Red Lobster in a long time. My ex boss and I used to have “business” lunches there.

Glad to hear about Tuffy. Why is she losing so many foals though?

Who knows, She didn’t ask too. Just said she couldn’t get it together this morning. It could be she decided the drive was too far, probably be an hour for her just to get to Bixby. I looked at her profile and she is quit a bit younger then Celia and I, my grandkids came into the conversation, LOL...she may have decided it might not be fun with a couple of seniors:), or it may be she really had something come up this morning...I’m not going to push it, I have enough flighty people about riding without adding to it.

They didn’t HAVE those when I was a kid. My dad wound up his “Super 8” movie camera with a key.

You mean that dog actually gets to go outside?! I would’ve figured that they’d keep him inside in a body stocking all the time to keep his coat protected. I’m glad to hear that he actually gets to have a life.

I found these pictures to show he actually does have a life. LOL.

Ah - well, if it’s that far, that makes it a challenge to be much of a regular thing, but it would have been fun.
