The FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread! - Thread 11

Posted on 01/02/2007 9:57:39 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - (very out of date) Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

Yeah - I am trying to figure out what to do with it! Can’t go riding without the trailer... And like your place... one nice day won’t dry up the trails that have been rained on all week. .. but I may work Bay a little to watch him move in his new shoes a little more. I think this afternoon we will help Rosie get her lawn mowed.

Yes, anything outside sounds good.

I have a question about impatiens.... You said you started some from seed. I’d like to do impatiens this year, and I can certainly get more bang for my buck if I start them from seed. Did you start them in the house? or right in the ground?

Good Morning.

We had a dusting of snow last night. Yard was covered! This is getting to be ridiculous.

Yay! A new chain saw and rifle. Very nice. That saw will come in handy.

what’s their breeding?

Both foals are by Designed by Kristi. Emmy, the big solid mare is bred back to Diversified, both mares are Dreamfinder bred. Their sire is Maid's Dream

It's hard for me to keep them all straight. It's pretty awesome with AI, that you can breed to these top stallions that are so far away. It has taken Judy years to develop these quality of horses.

I think you all will just love this 1 1/2 minute youtube video of a beautiful horse actually dancing to various types of music. You will not believe your eyes. You may want to ping others you know who might appreciate watching it, too.

Thanks for the link. That’s a great little mare, and a really great performance. What the horse and rider are doing is called freestyle dressage.

Wow. Thanks. I hadn’t seen it. How do you teach a horse to do stuff like that? :’)

The video that we keep watching is at the 2006 World Equestrian Games. Believe it or not, that little grey mare, Blue Hors Matine, ridden by Andreas Helgstrand, didn’t win the freestyle. (properly known as a Kur, btw) It went to Anky van Grunsvyn on Salinero. Here’s the video.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MPJGEzI3aIc&mode=related&search=

She’s always been a favorite, Salinero’s performance was smoother than Matine’s, and over all he seemed more relaxed. There was also a snit over “improper choice” of music, and “they” liked Anky’s choice better. Dressage people don’t seem to like any modern music in the freestyle composition. I remember one year at the olympics, the judges just about had kittens because one of the competitor’s had the Ghostbusters theme worked into her program, and that’s all they could talk about during her ride, and I believe that they marked her down for it. The rider loved it, and was grinning the whole time, and the audience got into it too, which in my opinion is fantastic. You want your audience to enjoy it as much as you do!

Yeah. I caught myself swaying to the music as she danced. I’ll go watch the winner now.

I am no expert but I know what I like. I thought the winner was boring and I didn’t like the music. With the grey, I didn’t noticed the rider and was wondering what rhe horse would do next. This one seemed to never end and the rider kept moving about and distracting me. I guess it’s just individual taste. I didn’t like the commentator announcing her the winner even if she didn’t do as well as usual, before the horse even started either.

That’s what I meant by Anky always being the favorite. :-) I personally liked Helgstrand’s performance better, it had more energy, but Anky’s was technically better. And it all goes according to whatever mood the judge is in too. :-)

Oh how wonderful! You found the name of the horse & rider.

I'll have to pass that info on to my mother. She gets RFD TV where she lives & said she has seen that rider a few a times. Thank you!

The grey had more pizazz, but the black horse was a pleasure to watch too... thanks for finding that and giving the rest of the story :~)
