This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
you ok? I finally got tru to my people. Scared but alright.
What kind of storms are you having?
Me. None. Tornado in FT worth though. Family there. Problems with this comp though. Sorry. Choppy.
We are having some severe weather but no damage on my place. So far, 3 tornadoes have touched down, the closest to me would be about 25 miles away. Lots of damage in those areas but I haven’t heard of any deaths.
I watched this weather system on the radar as it was moving in and I’ve never seen so much rotation in one storm. One long line of storms, chock full of rotation all up and down it. Amazing to watch.
And thanks for checking on me, guys.
I think the mouse is working now:’) I’m glad all is ok.
Where in Fort Worth does your family live? Didn’t you tell me TCU area?
I think Haltom City took the biggest hit in the metroplex. There were more tornadoes east of Dallas but I don’t know how bad they got.
YIKES... They’ve stopped reporting it here, so I’m glad you checked in.
At top is fairly deluxe polycarbonate spork by Light My Fire. It comes in assorted colors, and looks like it do just about anything needed in the line of feeding.
Below it is the Fox40 mini whistle. I've taken a sudden interest in whistles since my mother fell down in her own back yard this week, and spent two hours calling for help before a neighbor helped her back inside. Bottom line: she suffered a minor asymptomatic heart attack. In older people, a heart attack can produce loss of balance, but no pain. She's in the hospital right now, but doing well.
Anyway, I've learned that a whistle will produce more noise than a person can make by just yelling. The Fox40 line doesn't use any sort of cork ball running around inside. It produces a much higher-pitched screech than the warble from a regular whistle. A whistle is highly recommended for any outdoor or survival gear, or in this case, for my mother.
Both items are in the $3-$4 price range at any decent camping supply store.
Did you see our local story about the horse stuck in the mud? It made the national news. They got him out ok but it took awhile.
Lake Worth and in the Jacksboro/long street area.
Holy cow, I’m glad your mother is ok!
I saw that an RV sales lot got hit hard and a church lost a roof.
Wow, I bet they were scared. Storms with rotation went right over that area. The tornado that touched down in Haltom City went right over Lake Worth and the North Side.
I saw a thread that got posted about it... but never saw the story.
The whistle is a good thing! When my brother and I were little kids, we had whistles we wore around our neck, at places like parks or airshows or amusement parks or places where we might get separated... that we could blow it and the folks would hear it.
I saw an office park lost a bunch of those air conditioning units that were on the roof.
You know, what’s really lucky? Nascar is going on at the Texas Motors Speedway. It’s a sea of RV’s in that parking lot, thousands of them. They got the people out of the stands before the storm hit but it never got real bad there. Some areas got softball size hail. That would have killed people in the stands.
Yikes.
That would have been a disaster. Those things are so vunerable.
