The FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread! - Thread 11

Posted on 01/02/2007 9:57:39 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - (very out of date) Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

Thanks to both of you for your kindness.

I do hope you get to see the video Becky.

My mother always says if she were 10 years younger she would love nothing more than to have & train a dressage horse.

I’ll see it tomorrow for sure, when I go to our office.

If my horse were 10 years younger, I think he’d have made a good dressage prospect. I had a few lessons and played with it a bit when I was young. If I were still thin enough myself to look good doing it, I’d try it again.

It would be nice if I didn’t have to tell Bay to pick up his feet so much :~) I’ll let you know.

The shoer was on one side, working on the back, and he thought (or had a moment of not thinking) that he could just give his cart a push and roll it under Bay to the other side.

*tsk* *tsk* *tsk* He'll know better next time. :-) I'm surprised that he did that.

At my barn we hot shoe, and I asked the vet that I worked for if her farrier hot or cold shod her horse, and she looked at me like I had six heads, lol. Hers was cold shod.

I'm a dressage rider, though not very high up in the ranks, but I do love it very much, it has always been a passion of mine and makes me very happy. I currently am working with a "project pony" named Oliver, and we've made some decent strides with him becoming a dressage horse. Maybe I should post a video of the progress that we've made. He's starting to carry himself more balanced, and the change is like night and day. It's not very exciting, but it's exciting to me. :-)

I don’t think he was thinking when he did it... or he gave Bay too much credit.

Frog... I went out during a break in the weather and tried to get Cyn foot pictures, but they came out too blurry. I was trying to hold her, hold her foot up, hose her foot off, and hold the camera all at the same time.

We’ll try again tomorrow when honey can help me. :~)

I don’t have a video yet, but I didn’t know if such a thing would be boring, so that’s why I asked first. It’s really nothing spectacular, I’m just more excited that he’s starting to trust me and do what I ask. :-) My trainer is excited because he’s like a different horse.

Thought I'd show you a picture of the way our trees look now, after the freeze we had. I've never seen this happen. it will be interesting to see how long it takes for them to start putting out new leaf buds. All the dead looking leaves hanging on the trees were new leaves growing:(

Beaker post your video, when have pictures ever been boring. I'll see it tomorrow in town.

Cindy, I was wondering about you today...have you been absent because you've been working so much?

Alright... I’ll stop whining :~)

Huh... I hope the trees all recover. It’s been such a strange winter - not just here, I guess.

Not freeze damage, but one year when we had the plague of caterpillars... they ate every leaf of many of our leafy trees. A month later, when the caterpillars were gone, they all budded out with new leaves.
