The FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread! - Thread 11

Posted on 01/02/2007 9:57:39 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - (very out of date) Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

Most of the pictures looks like his stirrups are too long, and he's pushing back, which is pushing up the back of the saddle seat.

Hmmm, you're right. He needs to relax his legs and sit in the saddle, instead of pushing back.

It's loaded as just a jpg image. When you go to load it.... in the browse window choose load video instead of image.

The title above the "choose window says Upload images and videos. Then in the box it says Choose and image (or a video)

How do I get it to load a video.

The word video stayed blue.

Thanks for the link. This stuff on horse.com is good reading. Unfortunately there are many snake oil salesmen out there and a lot of them have special halters and sticks to sell you if you want to use their method.

That's not to say there aren't good things to take from natural horsemanship or some of the other methods. I just have to laugh at the know it all's and Sonny appears to be one...except for spelling and punctuation.

Yeah - after that, it should have changed to "load a video (or an image)"

Well, I can't get it to do anything, and am getting very frustrated...

I'll stop for a while and tell you something I think I figured out about what ever is wrong with him. I will be keeping the vet appointment.

This happened yesterday too, but I did not connect the two. I swear now, he was fine, till I picked up his front leg to stretch the skin out from under the cinch. I did not stretch his leg to far just lifted it up, and he jumped back and went sidewise, never done that before, but I just thought, well it's been awhile. I did his other leg, he didn't react as strong. THEN, is when I started to walk him off he was so lame a stiff looking.

Well, today, he did seem to walk too the trailer fine to be saddled, then as I walked him away he looked stiff, I turned to go back to come in and get my camera, and he seemed fine...

I did not stretch the skin out of the cinch, till I got back out there and in the arena, and when I did his left front he did what he did yesterday, but seemed fine on the right, That's when I started connecting that doing that has something to do with what ever is the problem. I tested it again, and he doesn't want to lift his left front and come forward with it. I went very slow and let him stretch, and he did to a certain point then would jump back if I tried to make him go farther. So now I think it may be his left shoulder.

I mashed on it every where, and he did turn and look at me, but I don't know if that meant anything, but that's the biggest reaction I got from mashing.

Ok, well it's not doing it for me, so I guess I can't load a video.

Maybe I'll try youtube, I've gotten those to play on here in the past.

Sorry about the frustration. Just be sure before you try to upload it again, it says it's uploading a video, not an image.

Huh - well, maybe it's a pulled shoulder, or elbow, or something, then... maybe even from the resistance when you did the stretch. I guess if he wasn't ready, or he pulls back wrong, he can pull something. And it's hard to figure out what and where. Let us know how the vet goes about figuring that out.

If that doesn't work, try emailing the video to me, maybe I can upload it somehow...

Don't forget you have to buy their books and videos, too.

I just posted on a NH thread on the horse.com forum that will probably piss some people off. I said that no one had ever heard of NH until the "Horse Whisperer" book and movie came out. Now everyone is a horse whisperer/NH.

I have no clue how to e-mail a video.

I couldn't even get registered at youtube....

What the heck do they need to know birthdays, and such for...I'm tired of filling in all these membership forms. :)

Am I in a mood or what:)

I actually do agree with alot of the NH stuff, I just don't think it's anything new.

I've never been a horse whisperer but I can remember a few times being a horse screamer. "Damnit Whitey" comes out a lot when he does the big shoe dance on my foot.

I was at the Harrisburg Horse Expo a couple of years ago and couldn't believe how many of the NH's there were. I can't help but giggle at the GaWaNi Pony Boy. I'm sure he could have come up with a better name. Chris Cox did have a really neat exhibition ride during the evening show though. That man can ride.

That's so funny that you would mention Chris Cox. I read your post after making mine. The show I saw was his offical retirement of his old horse. He laid him down and unsaddled him in the arena under a single light. There wasn't a dry eye in the place.

:) I was looking at the pictures and thought that too - why's he standing in the stirrups or does he actually ride with them that long...

Well, I'm sorry about all the frustrations! you would email it by attaching it like a picture.

Not sure why photobucket isn't working for you. It should change to upload video if you click that!

I can't even e-mail pictures:), remember, I'm using a Mac. Which, I'm ready to throw out the window, just because everything is different, I have trouble finding people to tell me how to do things like this.
