This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
Well that will be interesting:)

I’m afraid... I know Mark’s work has been criticized some, but Bay’s feet have been staying sound the way they are... what if a NB farrier changes too much and it lames him up?
I don’t think he would sore up in his feet. He might need a few days to adjust if the new farrier changes the angles.
Becky
The NB farriers I have used (2 of them) were pretty sensitive about making drastic changes. They told me that with Jake it would take 3-6 trims/shoeings to correct his feet. Bay's feet are not near as bad as Jakes, I would think they would do it gradually if any is needed. Tell them about your concerns.
Life would be so much easier without imagined worries eh?
That it would! Frog is off trail riding today so we won't get her input on that but since we use the same farrier I think she would say the same thing.
Then you should be ok leaving it on. Sort of a green house effect. Just don't let the plastic touch the plants. You could also fill some gallon milk jugs with water and place those near the plants. They would heat up in the daylight and release heat at night. We used to use those "Wall of Waters" around the tomato plants for an early planting. They really worked well keeping the plants warm.
It sounds like a lot of fun but I may have to pass too. I have classes on Friday and Mondays thru Nov. If I can’t make it, maybe Estrogen and I can keep the thread going:’)
Well, darn. I was thinking maybe you could drive up, pick up tuffy and come for at least a day or so. If you didn’t want to haul a horse that far to get here quicker, that would be OK...we could round you up one. Of course I realize that’s a really long drive for you to make just for a day or so visit.
Keep it in mind tho...maybe you could work it out someway:)
Becky
Well, we’re heading out here in a bit... Got the horses caught and the trailer all loaded. Back later :~)
Oooh. Have fun! :-)
We’re back :~)
Had a good ride, pics uploading :~)
ecurbh trying to remember where all the straps go I think ;~)
And we're off :~)
The theme for the day is storm damage... I took over a hundred pictures of downed trees... after awhile they're repetitive... I'll try not to overwhelm the thread :~\
Bay has never liked logs on the side of the trail... I call them 'trail pigs' or something. Here, look at his ears... he's looking at them on both sides ;~)
ecurbh having to go around a root ball pulled out of the ground.
In the creek... this was right about the time Cyn decided she didn't want to be in the creek any more and started lunging out. ecurbh hung on... just like he always has :~)
The edges of clear cuts, and isolated stands of trees they try to leave in the middle of them were just flattened... half the trees were blown over.
That creek is actually our trail... the pond/creek was overflowing here and running down the trail. ecurbh had to convince Cyn this was OK to walk in... I named her "Dances in Creeks".
Thought that was interesting :~)
And this was interesting :~)
Just more trees down.... everywhere you look...
Bay even ~almost~ stopped snorting at those big root ball monster things.
Toward the end I got down and walked a bit... I thought Bay would appreciate it, and I need the exercise...
All in all, good ride... we just did a short loop today, will probably do the same short loop a few times before we go on the longer loops. Didn't Bute Bay before hand... and he was good... not as hot as I thought he'd be... wonder if he would have been a little more hyper if I had...
It’s still a long time off. I have a 10 day inservice in Oct I have to go to for my Rehab hours. Eddie is my back up for ERs but after that I don’t know if he would kindly consider a horse trip another ER:’) I might be able to schedule some classes off but it’s tight because I want to be done before Thanksgiving.
Hey, great pictures. You do have a lot of downed trees. Is this trail any part of what I rode? Nothing looks familiar.
Becky
WEll keep it in mind:)
Becky
You’ve only been on the first part from the top to the creek. After the creek, we went up that steep climb you might remember and we went a different way, on the longer loop, when you were here.
What caused all the downed trees? Especially the ones with the root balls. Did you guys have really high winds at one point?
Yeah - we had a couple bad wind storms over the winter. Winds up in the 70 mph range. Fir trees just aren’t made for that.
