This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
Good morning:)
I don't know to be glad they came back to you, or sad they came back to you:)....to bad people can't/won't take care of their pets.
Jenny and I watched Flicka yesterday down at her shop...HHHMMMMM...so sappy:), but I'm sure little girls would like it. I liked watching the horses run thru the fields.the story line could have been good, but was just way to corny for me.I was thinking little girls like you alls granddaughters who like horses would like it.
Then Mack and I watched 2 more episodes of Lost:)....Kate is really quite the little con artist isn't she, Jack seems to be losing it but I think he'll come thru in the end. The muslim guy is interesting, and then of course there is Locke...strange man.
The rain has cleared, I hope to ride this afternoon. I'm going to Jenny's this morning to keep Tucker for a while. I'm just sure the trails are going to be so muddy....
Becky
Well, at least you made it back in one piece. Hopefully you won't have to go back there for a while.
Poor puppy probably got run over or something. Poor babies. I hate it when people don't take care of animals. It's especially heinous when they're Goldens - just such sweet and trusting critters.
Oh dear... Is there a Golden Retriever rescue you can shuttle them off to, quietly?
Good morning :~) I haven't seen the Flicka movie... but I would have predicted it would be pretty corny :~)
Re LOST - yes, yeah, indeed and yes :)
We may ride today... talked to Bob yesterday on my drive about the trails opening soon... he thinks Kat is healing up nicely and will be ready to go after her fight with the fence... Jessie still hasn't been on her though, because of all that. I hope to get him inspired to get riding this spring, and get Jessie out on trail. He's going to be trying out a new horse, a big 16 hand appy he's considering trading for Jihann, the other Arab he got from his DIL, the little Bay horse, if you remember him. The stable where Jessie takes lessons wants Jihann... she's an Arab judge of old and he'd be a good school horse.
So are you riding at home if you ride? I'm a bit surprised you are considering it. I saw a report on your weather there...Looks pretty cold?
I don't remember you telling us that Kat got hurt:(...never fails tho when you bring a new one home that you are anxious to ride. How is Jessie doing in her lessons...Eng. or West?? Bob likes those apps doesn't he:)
Becky
I didn't mention Kat got hurt? Hmmm... well, I haven't been down there to see it for myself, I guess she got in a tangle with another horse across Bob's back fence which is field fence and barbed wire...
Bob and the farrier said it was pretty ugly, but she'd be OK... just took a bunch of hide off and has been slow to heal. Bob's been doctoring it for about a couple months I guess. When she's good enough, Bob'll start hauling her over to the stable so Jessie can use her for lessons. Jessie may have been both English and Western at times... she rides English on the little pony, I think, but she'll likely ride Western on Kat... Kat's never done anything else, she has a show-slow jog trot and neck reins.
Yes, Bob likes those Appys, if he can't have a mule... and he's gonna keep his other big Appy... just wants a backup he can use, and he can't use Jihann at all.
Not sure what they're saying on the weather reports... weather's been pretty good, really, and it looks like it's gonna be sunny today. Yeah - we'd just ride here.
Hey Estrogen, check out this place in Pilot Mt, NC. It's not right ON I-77, but it's not too far off of it and it looks like a nice place for y'all to spend the night. It's a B&B and they have a stable and trails...

I'll keep looking for more.
Really...I swear they were saying that winter returned up there this morning on GMA...
Well have fun, take pictures, I would if it wasn't just the back of Harley's head:) Someday, maybe I can get someone to go with me again.
Becky
It's a little chilly this morning, but clear... we'll see... if winter returns sometime this morning, I'll let you know they were right :~)
Just saw our weather forecast... they're saying sunny and maybe 60 today... clear and maybe as high as 70 tomorrow. If that's true, I know a Bay horse who may get his first bath of the season tomorrow :~)

There is a Golden rescue in the Cleveland area. The puppy would have a home with a friend, no problem there. This lady had 3 kids, that were old enough to be responsible for those dogs. They just must not be getting the love and attention, if they came back here. I am really tore on this situation. Should I not take them back and risk getting into trouble, if they find out I had them. Or is it "finders, keepers" :)
I'd be torn too... mostly because of the lack of care of the older dog. I mean... our Homer is loved, but he loves to get out too. It is tough to handle a runner... or two, or three.
Did the people come to your house? Do they know where you live if they come looking?
I'd keep them and hide them if the people came looking. They don't deserve to have dogs if they're not going to take care of them. Didn't you almost find them homes the last time they came visiting?
