The FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread! - Thread 11

Posted on 01/02/2007 9:57:39 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - (very out of date) Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

:) my thoughts exactly.

Friday and Sam leave tomorrow morning to go to friend's house. Sam will be back in about 4mos I hope. I'll get pictures of the stud they are going to breed her to, and the broodmare band she will be joining.

Well, now that it is over I'd say we had some fun, but there were lots of mishaps:\ Getting ready to go was the most fun..

One we didn't even get a nibble, two, JP fell down tripping on rocks so much...and got caught in brambles...and lost his Sponge Bob bobber...his momma waded in and got it. I don't think he understood what we were doing, and I don't think he will know till we catch a fish.

We always caught fish there when I took my kids..I don't know much about fishing, but I'm wondering if the hard rain we got last night had the fish hiding. The water was very murky..looked like chocolate milk.

I'm going to try some spots by myself before I haul him down there again.

I took a lot of pictures, and will post them later when I'm home. We are in town right now.

That's great, glad to hear you had a good ride.

Has that trainer rode her...what did he/she say?

He said I'm not going to get a better riding horse and to keep her and work with her. I watched him ride her today before I did. She was beautiful. She was trotting and had her neck arched and was picking up her feet. She looked like a show horse.

Yep. I like his style. He is very quiet and slow with her. I think she finally found a male that she doesn't mind riding her. The (she) trainer and I talked today. In a couple of weeks she and the guy are going to saddle up and go out on the trails with me. We spent a long time today talking about my goals and planning (while I rode)

Oh darn! :)

I'm going to ride tomorrow morning. We have to go to a wedding at 4, but I think I can work a ride in in the morning, if it's not raining.

WE are down at the building, Mack went to see if the next Lost disc is in for us to rent. We have 1 episode left on the 3rd disc. If it's in we'll be down here all evening:)

we'll see. Darn horse is putting me in the poor house though. It cost me 125 dollars for shots today. Why do I have to pay for Coggins? I'm doing the governments work. If they want horses tested why don't they pay for it?

Good question... I've never done a Coggins. We don't need 'em here... I barely know what it even entails, only that some of you have to do it.

Did he give you any tangible advice and techniques today to work her better? Did you change anything? Or did she just magically behave better?

Exactly. I sure wouldn't buy any fresh garlic from him :) Very odd neighbors Hair has for the most part.

Bummer that you didn't get any fish but I do think the rain probably had something to do with it. If I remember right (it's been a lot of years since I took a little boy fishing) muddy water will cause a problem.
