The FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread! - Thread 11

Posted on 01/02/2007 9:57:39 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - (very out of date) Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

...This is a pony butt that isn't where it's supposed to be and she knows it :~)

Yeah, and Bay knows it too, and it looks like it's about a split-second away from being chomped down on.

Great Pony Races pics!

Yup... she was trying to scrunch her butt down. I missed the better moment when he got her :~)

Oh. Big horses don't bother me at all. The babies though...I've caught a few and there I am holding the lead rope and thinking what's this little horse gonna do now.

I'm sure. They get loose in the barn and it's like kids running in the hall. You better get out of the way:')

...The quicker ones can get me once...

Bob's the sneaky kind. He'll come up to you, all lovey-dovey like "Oooooh, just let me rest my forehead on your chest and you scratch my ears. How can you resist something as cute and cuddly as meeeee" and then before you know it he's nipped or lipped you on the belly or grabbed your shirttail and pulled it out. The little stinker! You've always got to be on your guard around him because EVERYTHING is a game with him. He's not mean, he's just mischievous.

She's a really sweet dog.

Now HERE's the one who does nothing right now but lie around the house and eat . . . and harass Big Dog . . .

"Were you talkin' to me?"

The action photographers have a pretty good business going, jaunting around to all the performance events. All of the dog fanatics line up to buy multiple shots of their critters . . . there are 4-5 different people who show up at various AKC and USDAA agility trials, some are better than others.

The tip top though, was when I took Shelley to our first AKC Hunt Test. They had a REAL pro there, with top flight digital equipment with huge telephoto lenses. He got some great shots -- I bought a bunch and I'm probably going to buy some more. He really has a good eye.

You see that sky walk they built over the Grand Canyon?

If you go to twistedriver.com and look at his work, it's very impressive. I was amazed at how MANY good dog shots he got at the hunt test - he also does cat shows, horse events, dance recitals, you name it.

I just love to watch the Big Dogs work . . .

I've posted something over in the horse forum that I've been thinking about.... grist for the mill, either here or there:

Movement as punishment... An inevitable fallacy?

:) I read the thread but didn't post to it. I'm basically a coward about a flame war. When a horse doesn't Whoa here, it gets one more chance in a much harsher tone of voice. Third time it gets kicked and told Whoa. On a lunge line, it gets it's head jerked as hard as possible. In a saddle, one rein pulling the head around as far as possible. Whoa is pretty important here and requires just about instant obedience.

I saw pictures of the skywalk. Man, I wouldn't go out on that for any amount of money. I have a terrible time with heights.

I would rather walk down and look up at it but, I suppose I could grit my teeth and get across on my knees but not for 25 dollars!

:) I would like to take the train tour at the Grand Canyon. Some friends have taken it - it sounds about my speed.
