This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
You would think that after all the taxes you pay throughout the year, then all the added taxes on gas and cigarettes and then sales taxes on everything but food that you have already contributed enough to the running of the country wouldn't you?
You'd think. We don't have withholding, since we're both paid as contractors, so we have to do quarterly estimates. I figure, if everyone had to write big checks to the government, instead of withholding where it's invisible, we'd have a lot lower taxes.
So what I'm gathering from them, they want to get a few breedings from this guy then geld him, and you'd get Friday back in two years, bred, you'd get Farah bred for free? and they'd have an option to buy the foal?
Sounds like a pretty good deal, really. You lose Friday for a year, but you're looking to reduce mouths this year anyhow.
Why not do it?
I sat down one time and figured out how much I paid in taxes, federal, state, county and city (when I lived in NC) and it was depressing. I think it was like 38% of my income went out in taxes.
I think it's probably a good deal for all of us. She can't afford to buy Friday, I won't sell Farah - but she gets a chance for two tood foals and we get a drop in expenses. And work. So I guess it remains to be seen how her partner feels about it.
tood = good
I think it sounds fair, if you trust their care and feeding and all.
Well, I'm pooped... overstimulated I think, gonna hit the couch.
Talk to you all in the morning :~)
Have a good evening.
Tuffy is gonna be a daddy. My goodness:')
:) Well, we hope.
Well, I'm sure he will try his best.
Yep, he's doing that. Have a good night :)
You too.
I hope everyone had a great weekend.
A few more days of this cold and it should warm up.
It's run errands day. My license plates expire tomorrow, so I better get those today.
Sounds like a sweet deal. Cut your expenses out, so you can get to retire. It's a beautiful thing!
Yeah, taxes...blech....If it wasn't for taxes and insurance we would live like millionaires here...
Duchess, hey sounds like a good deal, and gets you one step closer to retirement:).
Good morning:)...
We have good chances of rain all week...that's good and bad...will make it hard to get Harley rode, but rain, we always need. This probably seals the deal that I won't go to the Ark ride. That's OK, as long as he stays sound. I just don't want to have to bring him into condition at that fast a pace. It could probably be done, but I had decided last year I wouldn't do that to him. I did it twice last year, did conditioning over a short period and always wondered if that might have been part of the problem...I don't think it was now, he just feels so good now with the new trim/shoes. I just don't want to risk getting him sore and then not being sure what the problem is. As long as he continues as he is, I'll be fine waiting to go to a ride till May.
Becky
That's just scarey! I don't blame you for getting off at all. I'd've done the same, even if it make me late to work. You never know when somebody like that is just going to go ballistic and hurt somebody. I think I'd try real hard to remember his face and never get on a train with him again if I could help it.
Bummer, but a wise and mature choice, I'm sure, to not risk it. It's the difference between those that go lame on the second day and those who stay sound.
Good morning everyone... not sure what's on our agenda today, or what the weather is gonna do.
Yikes... I have to go to the big city next week... It's just never a good idea to got there :~\
