The FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread! - Thread 11

Posted on 01/02/2007 9:57:39 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - (very out of date) Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

Did ya'll see that epona on the horse.com forum has written her opus? I went back through some old posts of hers trying to figure out what happened and I did find this gem. Epona is the one who wrote about about the piercing getting in the way...

OK .. here goes ... While visiting my brother in NYC for his Grand Opening in Beauty and and Beast, he took me to "The Village" after one of his shows, where I drank two beers and had some pink-haired girl in a piercing shop pierce my right nipple. It was something crazy to remember NYC by!

Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeek! I can't believe I told that.. (Nobody tell my mother, she still doesn't know.)

The nipple piercing was my second piercing, actually. I already had my navel done.. Two babies later, both are gone gone ....

I did that too..but mine was a double whammy lol and I got rid of ALL my peircings before labor.. I had one that would..ahem..get in the way lol

Jeepers... More drama?

Well, we got gravel hauled and some holes filled in the driveway... Now gonna laze the rest of the day away, I think.

Yeah I saw that about Epona...I saw on one thread where she posted a nude of herself showing her tatoos on her back. Her hand covered her boob, and she had photshop a heart over her butt...what a weirdo.

Just got in from riding...Harley feels good enough that he was actually being a brat:)...prancing, jumping sidewise....so we went about 1 hour 40 minutes. If he feels that good he can work some. Trotted and lope a fair amount too.

Mon. we get serious.

I'm going to laze the rest of the day too. Probably go to town and watch some Lost this afternoon. Mack is working tonight, he'll leave about 9:00.

Afternoon everyone!

We had a nasty snow/sleet/ice rain storm yesterday into this morning. It was trecherous in Boston, and the roads weren't even touched when I got off the train last night. I drove 15 mph in 1st gear all the way home, white knuckled all the way. It was POURING when I woke up this morning, so no barn today. I went back to bed to try to beat a cold, and didn't wake up till 2! I was little horrified... I never ever sleep like that.

Well you should expect that if she calls herself "Epona". Most of the Wiccans I know are pretty unhinged.

You a Wiccan? Maybe you're an exception, my children's "faery godmother" is an exception too.

>>>>>>>>Now I have a few questions.....if I get a pasture mate for Waylon should I get a "" been there done that"" kind of horse. Waylon likes to play and winds up intimidating all the other horses in the pasture at the barn. Last night he had three BIG bites out of his neck and face from the horses he "plays with" How stupid can he be not figuring out he is going to get hurt....so what kind of horse or companion should I get?>>>>>>>>> Hey, if I could make a suggestion? I can't tell if you really want another horse or just a companion for the one you have, but if you don't really need another horse how about a donkey? We have a donkey rescue here and many people adopt them as companions for their horses. They are really easy keepers and fun to own. There may be a rescue near your new house that would have one. Just a thought. St. Patrick's Day! SmileyCentral.com

You a Wiccan?

Nope, I'm a catholic. I've known some wiccans in the past, though, and some are scary, and some are mostly harmless.

(I'm Catholic too.)

I agree with you, most are perfectly harmless, but a few are scary (usually the ones who dabble in ceremonial stuff). My experience though is that they are sufficiently unhinged that most of them seem to be completely unable to hold down a regular job. They all seem to live from hand to mouth and one jump ahead of the repo man.

I've known this one girl who's a 3rd degree priestess for something like 35 years, since before my husband and I were married. She's a nice girl, with a doctorate in electrical engineering and a good job, and I never understood why she got mixed up with such a bunch of no-counts. However, recently she left the group she was involved with and has become a "solitary". High time. I'm hoping in another 35 years we can get her into the Church . . . < g >

Good Morning.

Lots of sunshine, but cold.

Beaker, the front we had, moved up your way. I hope this is the last of it.

how about a donkey?

There you go! A donkey would be a great idea for a companion animal. Check out Petfinder There are quite a few that need rescued.

Hope you all had a great day today. It was a beautiful sunny day, t-shirt weather here.

My son came over with two of his friends and went out target shooting, then sitting around visiting and telling us horror stories about the academy. Then we all took my niece and her family out for pizza (we owed my great nephew pizza for his all A's on semester grades).

In between I did taxes :( and discovered my 2005 return was wrong so I have to send in an amended return. And pay money of course. I swear, next year, it all goes to an accountant, I hate dealing with it and it gets more complicated every year. My office looks like a tornado hit it, piles of paperwork on every surface, including the floor.

Yesterday at work a friend who is a breeder stopped by and we had a long talk. She had a proposition for me. She wants to free lease Friday and breed her to her partner's 3yr colt. She would insure her for her purchase price and return her next year, bred to the stallion of our choice (of hers). Then she wants to breed Farah to the same colt but let Farah stay here because she knows I won't let Farah go anywhere else :) They (she and her partner) would have the option to buy the foal at a preset price. They want to geld the colt and put him back on the show circuit (he's pretty unmanageable now as a stud) Anyway, any opinions would be appreciated. And a PS to this. She thinks her partner would end up buying Friday.

Hey - we did taxes too! :~( Was up at the beach house all day. We have to pay too.

You think she'd ride Friday too or just breed her?

You like the people? Like the stallions? Think they'd take good care of them?

They might ride her a bit but if they did it would just be trail rides. Yes, they would take good care of her. She would be pastured with a bunch of other brood mares.

We originally met her when we bred my old mare to her stallion, while we were out there, we also purchased Farah from her bred to the same stallion. He was the sire of Dusty and Indy. We also bought Prez from her as a two year old colt.
