This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!

WEll, I'll be:)

I've never seen a deer track that had those back prints like that.

Becky
Not sure I have either... it makes sense that it's a running print, as MT said... that their pasterns would flex more running, and they'd sink deeper.
Yeah it makes sense...especially with the picture you showed. It was a pretty deep print too...It was big too...I'd say 5 inches easy, so it was a big buck according to the chart.

I was afraid it was going to be a wild pig...I worry about running into them, it's only happened once, and we saw it far enough ahead, that we turned and went back. I've heard they can be mean and aggressive.

Rocky creek bed

I dont' know what these white trees are, but they smelled heavenly

Deep spot in the creek.

Tricky footing everywhere there in those creeks and creek beds. Does the bottom look like that where you cross them?
Great pictures. It's got to be a big relief to have Harley feeling good again :) That's a pretty tree, whatever it is.
I have 3 places where I cross the creek, 2 places are like that, Harley hasn't quite got going thru those places down real good:), Belle must have just learned where the rocks under the water were. I don't remember her clunking around in them the way he does:).

The place I cross that I've called the deep water crossing, the bottom them is just a couple of huge flat rocks, no loose ones.

Yes it is...I'm beginning to trust that he is going to stay feeling good too:). Next week I think I'm really going to step up the work a bit on him. I'll try again to ride Sat. and will keep it fairly easy, just may go a bit longer.

The tree smelled as good as it looked too:)

I just recently read "Angels and Demons" by Dan Brown...the guy that wrote the DaVinci Code...Man I could not put the thing down, it just never stops. Very good read.

It was slim pickings. I got Morning Comes Softy and True Believer a supernatural".
Looks like it's that time of year for remodling... or something. Gonna be doing my bedroom and bath, but the only thing holding the works up is the A/C guy to put in the central A/C ducts. He was supposed to be out this weekend, but he might not be now because of the weather.... :-(
Again with the contradictory advice, but I've found that geldings can get posessive if kept in the company of a mare or mares, but it's kind of a crap shoot. Either they will or they won't. Just something to be aware of. And RE: the trailer thing... I wouldn't unload him either unless it was overnight. I tend to err on the side of caution on that kind of thing. But be sure to offer him hay and water, and bring water from your own tap with you. He'll be more likely to drink it. And if he won't drink, try something to flavor the water. That also works if you don't have your own water with you. And of course don't forget proper shipping boots/wraps/etc!
Good luck. I don't see any reason why you couldn't start pushing him a bit. Sounds like he's doing fine.
That's a great site. I have to check it out when I get back to work on Saturday. I can only get about 1/3 of it to load here at home but the pictures I saw were cool. I like the Italian :)
I haven't had a problem here yet, but most of my mares are pretty nasty :) I can see where it would happen though.
Oh I've known my fair share of mares who could kick a bossy gelding's butt from one end of the paddock to the other. But I've also had really meek geldings suddenly need a major attitude adjustment and get really uppity when around a mare or two so you never can tell. I just didn't want Estrogen to think that her horse had gone wacko if he should do something like that. :-)
