Deuce went back to the trainers on New Years Day. Saw him at his 2nd workout and he looked great. I didn't cause any problems in the way I worked him when he came home, and so he's picking up where he left off.
Will get some pics with mom's new camera as soon as we have a day bright enough. The inside of Yogi's barn is not great for photos on dark weather days.
Now I have to lose this dang 15 extra lbs that have been hanging on so I can get my saddle suit tailored to hit the show ring on him this summer. Yippee!!!
Great to hear the he is doing well. Don't you just hate the winter weight gain? Nature's way of keeping us from freezing to death, I guess.
I understand... There are some types of injuries you wouldn't want to mask, I know. I guess I'm impatient, I would have asked the vet if starting him on some anti-inflammatories would be a good idea, and if that meant he felt better and the vet couldn't see anything tomorrow, then, so much the better.
Oh they're battered! We've been living in a constant state of battered hatches!
Dad and I were just talking about this winter, and how the weather has just never been a constant concern before. One or twice a winter, but not one right after another like this!
So far, it seems to be stalled and nothing has materialized here yet. Hopefully it stays that way. I've got to go to town here in a few.
Hanging my head sheepishly...this was winter weight gain from 2003. My horse Hapi died in Feb of that year and things got really bad. Went on anti depressants and ate like a house on fire. No bags of kettle chips were safe when I was around. Baked goods...nachos...it was really ugly. Then I turned 40 later that year and even after stopping the darn pills I couldn't lose the weight. My metabolism went to sleep.
I've been so disgusted with myself since then but am determined to lose it this year.
Egad Becky, I'm so sorry to hear about Harley. Keep us posted.
Heh, you needed to go to pharmacy school to know everything you need to know for that job!
Isn't Feline Distemper called Feline Paneleucopenia(sp) or something like that? I worked as a vet's aid long years ago (high school) and don't know why that weird name stuck in my head, but it did.
It sounds like you're doing great at dealing with all the new stuff being thrown at you though. I don't see how anybody can keep up with all the names of all the vaccines and medicines for all the different kinds of animals that a vet has to treat. So don't get frostbite standing in the fridge trying to sort all that out! ;o)
Oh boy, I hate it that Harley is lame. Tuffy threw a friggin' shoe today and I'm debating on getting the shoer to replace it now or just wait until he's due to come out, which is in 10 days. I put a pad back on his foot and taped it up. I won't be riding because the weather is fixing to get cold and Tuffy is staying in the round pen, which is where he should have been and he wouldn't have pulled the shoe off. My bad, I let him out in the pasture today.
I'm with you, I need to lose a few lb's before summer. If I get any bigger we're gonna need to widen the doorways.
Hey restornu! Long time no see. That's a really bizarre picture! Looks like the Chickenmobile. The ducks look like they're alive and looking around but the chickens look a little bit whacked. At least I hope they are, seeing as how they're just kinda piled on there. Very strange indeed.
Somebody call PETA!!
Really, can you imagine that scene in downtown NY?
I swear, you just never know what's going on with horses.
I talked to Charlie and he said it didn't sound like a stifle injury, that they will drag their toe if it's a stifle. or lock up. That's not what Harley is doing. He said he could be short stepping on the left because the right is hurting and he's trying to keep weight off. I never watched the right. So I went back out, and lunged him at the trot...for 10 minutes and he never bobbled. So I thought well maybe it was just a charlie horse or something, so I took him back up to saddle, thinking I'd go out and catch up with Celia. I saddled him, ran in and put my boots back on, bridled him led him out and he was lame again.
I took him saddled back to the arena and lunged him, and after a slow start he lunged fine. So I got on and walked him about 10 steps and knew he was walking lame again. About that time Celia showed back up. She watched him lunge, and at the trot he does fine going in circles, If you walk him in a straight line he's lame....now does that make any sense at all...and on top of that it now looks like a front foot/shoulder, rather then a hind....
I'm thinking now, what ever it is it's probably not serious, both Celia and I are thinking stone bruise. I'm going to see how he is in the morning, then decide on rather to take him to the vet. I probably will if he shows any lameness at all, because I don't want to go thru several weeks of wondering.
Thanks all for the concern, it's nice to have you all around:)
Becky
Jeepers... If only they could talk and point and we wouldn't have to guess. If you lunge him again or see him lame again, figure out how to take some video with that new-fangled camera of yours!
Are you already back from town?
I can take videos, I just don't know how to post them:)
Might be a good time to learn.
Becky
Yeah - back from town, the wind front has passed, I think, without a lot of action (and that's good). Now it's gonna get cold and we're supposed to have snow by morning and freezing for the next several days, but NO WIND.
You can upload videos to photobucket. Just take short ones, not too long since they'll take awhile to upload.
How do I get to photobucket?
