The FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread! - Thread 11

Posted on 01/02/2007 9:57:39 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - (very out of date) Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

Well at Ark, there is this one really really steep climb that is a mile from bottom to top. It's three miles from camp.

Can you (not that you would for this one) go to these places to ride so you and your horse can train at your own pace?

Well my kitchen is coming out so nice, I'm going to give you a peek:). I still have some painting on other walls, and the red part here is going to have to have another coat, but you can see it enough. In the before picture the dishes I matched my colors to are on that shelf. And in the after picture the trim hasn't been painted yet, it's yellow before but will be white when I'm done.

Oh sure. It's a state park in Ark. that this ride is held in. In fact I've been to this place just to pleasure ride one time. It's absolutely beautiful place to ride, and the trails are well maintained.

It's in the Kiamichi Mountain Range. so lots and lots of climbs. Very few stretches of just flat, so it's a lot of work for the horse.

It's in the Kiamichi Mountain Range.

Do they have camping and stalls? My husband and I were looking at some of the places in the Ozarks to go to, I bet it is beautiful. I have driven through NW Arkansas before and it is definitely hilly.

The place where we camp is private, right across the road from the park..It's called, "Mack's Pine Grove" and it's in Dover Ark...you know now that you say that, it might be the Ozarks instead of the Kiamichi...not sure now. Is all I know is it's a mountain range and very challenging.

Anyway, this Macks Pine Grove, has cabins and stalls you can rent, and they have a little resturant there too. It's not the fanciest place but not bad. There are electric hook ups too if you need that.

In the park itself, I know there is a horse camp ground, but I don't know what the facilities are like. I believe the camp ground is called Moccasin Gap.

You might could call Macks, or the state and get more info.

My son and his family are moving into an apartment the first. We have 12 rooms and are going to remodel one each month and replace what needs it. It's probably gonna get ugly though. I want the trim.

There are so many things we need to do, ceilings, floors, windows, but neither Mack nor I have the fortitude right not to tackle those big jobs. Just painting and improved the bedroom so much, that I'm going to try to get at least that much done, and not worry about the big stuff...if it gets done fine, if not fine. But i want some color.

Well your kitchen is looking really nice. I need more work at my place. It's been 14 years. It's time to finish this house. I've got closets with no shelves , a gutted bathroom, and stuff like that. It's not exactly magazine material.

Well, the filly looked much better this afternoon .. I think using the damp, fly-sprayed wash cloth to really clean and "anoint" her face last nite really helped. It's also rained on and off today, so the bugs may be a little at bay.

I applied the damp-wash-cloth-fly-spray .. and then the pink SWAT .. lol. She looks like and indian pony.. but I think she'll be more comfy.

They also got their ivermectin worming..

Then I stopped and picked up 16 bales of hay .. (8.50 a bale which is pretty goood in these here parts nowadays .. LOL)

Thanks again, for all your help.

Deb

Thanks:)..It's probably been that long since we've done anything here too. It's was getting pretty shabby looking.

Even tho my furniture won't match all that well, I think I'm going to go ahead and paint the living/dining room too. Mack and I want to do terra cotta in there, and I'm going to change the accent wall in the living room to the one that the patio door is in.

I want to put crown molding up, and a chair rail in the dining room. Add some architectual detail:)....I think I've been watching too many decorating shows, and too many episodes of "American Castles":)

I love the colors in there. Those are very close to the colors I used for Bob's office, red on the bottom, sandstone on the top with a wallpaper border in the middle. I really like what you are doing to your rooms.

Thanks Duchess:) I haven't decided yet if I want to put a chair rail where the colors come together, or just leave it as is....Still deciding. I'm going to go look at trim and see If I can find some I like.

I've got 4 oil paintings that my mother did. Each one is a picture of a different barn. I'm going to take them and get new mat boards for them, red, and they will sit up on top of the upper cabinets. So I guess I'm going with a barn theme:)

The paint looks great... I like it! Color's good.

When do you have to make a decision about the Ark ride? Can you put off the decision for a few weeks, maybe take him on a ride that's a little tougher someplace and see?

I really think that two-tone paint needs a chair rail. Just looks better.

As long as the ride doesn't fill up, which it usually doesn't because it is a difficult ride, I could sign up the day of...

So there is time, but you know me I'll fret about from now till then:) Wondering do I, don't I, do I, don't I...etc. etc. etc.

I know I can for sure make the one in May, the same one I went to last year in the spring. It's a fun ride, not to easy, not to hard....I wish it came before Ark.

Yeah, I think so too...I just painted some of the base board, and the white really makes the colors pop...I think the chair rail would look great.

Well, yeah, from a practical standpoint it'd be nice if they'd run the harder rides in the region at the end of the season!

I know you'll fret... keep fretting then, decide as you go :~)

I would like a "garden" area built off my kitchen. A place where I could put a table and 4 chairs in front of a large window and see outside.

We went for a walk at a local Dept of Game area... It's where they do pheasant releases in November and field trials, where I used to hunt pheasant, when I had real dogs.

The dogs had SO much fun :~)

Homer sortof points... I've seen him do it at home on dove in the yard. Who knows what his parentage is...

Tongues hangin' out now...

What happy, happy dogs!

They just love the wide open spaces.
