This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!

Oh MAN! That's awful! I'll admit, I've been TEMPTED to drag a really stubborn horse before, but I'd never actually DO it. If I'd've caught them doing something like that to one of MY horses they'd've probably got shot.
It seems to be nap time. Shelley and Ruby are snoring away in the study. They had a nice long walk down by the polo fields, and I turned Ruby loose to explore the creek. Lab Frenzy! She splashed in and out of the water, then ran laps on the bank, then leaped back in again. When she's in the water, she has this silly way of leaping straight up and then coming right back down with a huge splash. She really enjoyed herself. Shelley stood on the bank and watched with a superior/disgusted look.
Yeah, he's really got the thick hair. He's got more wooly undercoat than any Malamute I ever saw.
You're a better person than me for letting them back in the house after they got that wet. Were you walking them or did you have to let them back in the car that way?
sorry about that, ladies. I have had issues with that poster before. she's always right, her way is the only possible way, etc. she likes to try and make people look stupid and is very condescending. when I saw her in our quiet, peaceful domain, I flipped.
Understood. I guess everybody wigs out occasionally.
Cyn did really good. She can be a grouch, but as soon as she has the halter on she's all business, mind focused on the work at hand...
Or is she? Maybe what she was really thinking was "That pony is really p*ssin' me off!" ;~)
All in all, she was really good.
Then it was Bay's turn... He was good on his feet. Moved really well even on the line today.
He had to do some gymnastics though... I do this to work Bay's back... We should have tried it with Cyn too just for grins, but didn't think of it with her.
Trotting poles... also for his back. Cool shot because he's completely suspended... trotting on air... :~)
He wasn't always good though.... he made a mess of this pass :~)
He worked hard and worked up a sweat. He's looking really good. Much better than this time last year even.
Good Job! Bay really is looking good. Cyn was just pissed at the pony because she was eating hay and Cyn couldn't. You ought to work the pony a little bit just so the others don't feel like she's getting special treatment or anything.

Well, pony got wormed too, so she didn't get completely scott-free. :~)

We should work the pony, been a while. I want to build her some new jumps this year.
Did she pitch her fit like she usually does?
Only about five minutes worth of the head bobbing business... not as hard as she's been in the past! They didn't tongue and go "blech" after this stuff either... I don't think it tasted as bad as some brands.
Yeah, I've noticed that mine take exception to the Strongid more than they do to the ivermectin types. They must taste REALLY bad. I usually give a peppermint afterwards and they seem to forgive me for it.
Hey, they all look good:)

Cyn doing so well speaks well of ecurbh handling too:). Didn't he use to have trouble lunging her??? Good job.

Becky
Not a problem:)

Becky
I wormed mine today too...I usually do it when I'm feeding so they have the feed to kill the taste.

Becky
He used to have more line management issues... he's gotten the hang of it :~)

Well, got the monsters all boxed up... off to the vet, back in a bit.
Outstanding picture of Bay "trotting on air" :)
Great pictures of the horses and in shirt sleeves too! Great to have that nice of weather. It was only 7 degrees here this morning!
LMAO
Sounds like she's practicing:')
