The FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread! - Thread 11

Posted on 01/02/2007 9:57:39 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - (very out of date) Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

No pictures, not much drama, except I was out of checks in my check book and my daughter had to pay for the few days extra he stayed, plus a trimming and worming. My friend went with us, as she has her colt there for training. A lot of activity at that barn. This warm weather brings everyone out. It's good to have him home.

After we came back, the tree and the rest of the decorations, finally came down. About time.

Wow, another wind storm. Sorry, about the woodpecker tree. Is there a lot of damage to the fence? It is rather windy here also. Rain again, but temps are in low 50's.

Ok, here are a couple pics .. The first one is Bill, the reiner I'm riding. Not the best pic, but you can get an idea of build. He's 17, and as gentle as he looks. My 10-year-old daughter rode him today also.

And here are a couple of the other horses out there. The grey is a Missouri Foxtrotter (that I've also been given the OK to ride) and the black and white is a tall lanky thing, but I don't have all the scoop on him yet.

And finally, a couple pics of this paint. He's really kinda chunky and cute .. and very sweet. I hate the first pic, but the other one doesn't show you his face.

Heh... no, they're not appearing here. The site must be blocking them from hotlinking. Snapfish would work better :~)

I can see them. Very nice looking horses. Maybe the one is a Spotted Saddle Horse. A gaited breed. How cool to be able to ride such a nice reiner. Will you pleasure ride him or will you be allowed to do some spins and slides?

I don't think it was Langtry but another. I think it was before that, I believe. Let me see what I can find.

I'm just toning him up right now and then she said she'd show me his 'hot buttons'... hehe. I will tell you that even at a casual lope, when you sit back and say whoa (without touching the reins) he plants his butt in the ground! I can't wait until we have some more riding time together and can start playing.

OK - with ecurbh's help and by manually pasting those links, I can see them now! Kodak is a bit too restrictive on their linking!

Horses are cool though, the paint/pinto whatever he is is a cool lookin' guy :~)

Nice animals, glad you're getting a chance to ride!

I've openeda snapfish account, so I'll be posting from there from now on. I wasn't able to use the arena today, so next time I'll try to get some pics with Julie on him. They were really cute together. Bill is basically lazy, so he would only do what she could make him do .. but he was very tolerant of her learning how to neckrein without pulling BACK on the reins. And he responds to her leg,so they did well.
