The FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread! - Thread 11

Posted on 01/02/2007 9:57:39 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - (very out of date) Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

Thanks for all the good advise.

I went ahead and buted him yesterday, and will today, and ride tomorrow and see where we are at. If it's sore muscles from riding, that should help get him thru, that's what I do when I've laid off walking and then start again. It takes a few times to get where it doesn't make me sore. I'll probably go ahead and bute him for 4 days, then how he does with out it. The weather looks like I could get some consistent riding in the next week to test this.

I would also like to give the new farrier a chance to make him right. Or at least have him look at the horse and evaluate if there is something about his feet that is wrong. The appointment is less then 2 wks away. I'd call him now, but I want Harley to have some time to grow enough foot to do something with.

If none of this works, the vet, and the NB farrier will be the next step.

Becky

If anyone is wondering how we got to toilet brushes on a horse thread, Hair started it with the overturned septic truck.

LOL - Thanks for the summary :~)

Good luck with him. It just saddens me to see you having these problems, with how much you like to ride. So frustrating for you and I really hope it all comes together.

An overturned septic truck? Yuck, I missed that part. Yesterday someone a couple of houses down from me was getting their septic pumped and whoo boy, it was ripe.

A septic truck hit a power pole and knocked our power out Monday night. :~)

The funny thing is, when it happened, I walked out and said "what's that awful smell?" I did say it smelled like sewer outside, and we should have been too far away for me to actually smell it. It was like a half a mile down the road. ecurbh couldn't smell anything so I figured I was imagining things.

Hey, anybody know anything about clipper blades? I have the big oster clipmaster and I need the biggest blades available, like sheep shear blades I guess, for George. I don't understand how those blades are sized and there's a zillion of them. What do I get?

Update on Lori. She has been cleared mentally :) and financially for the kidney transplant. Now she has to be cleared physically. She has a cardiac Ultrasound and an EKG scheduled for next week and a kidney ultrasound scheduled for March 6th. Then a cardiac stress test March 15th. We are hoping they will have a cancellation there and get her in sooner. So guys, thanks for all the prayers so far, only a couple more hurtles left.

God has given her a lot of miracles so far, including getting over the Sierras today in a massive snow storm to get her evaluation.

Just a little bit longer.

I was just looking in my Jeffers catalog and it actually looks like the blade selection for the Clipmaster clippers is fairly limited. There's a combo pack with the top and bottom blades together for $20.75 but Country Supply has the same for $19.00 HERE

I don't know a whole lot about buying clipper blades... I do remember that I bought a few different ones for faces, body, ets, but I don't remember off the top of my head what the numbers mean. If you can look at them in the store, you can tell which ones are very fine and which ones leave the hair a little longer.

Hey - it just started snowing here.

Well, the Clipmaster blades aren't sized like the regular Oster A5 blades. Those blades are sized like 5, 10, 15, 30 & 40, with the 40 blade being the surgical clip. From what I can tell, the Clipmasters just have a "General clipping" set and a surgical set. But I may be wrong. I have a Clipmaster but I inherited it from a relative and just use the blades that came on it. I think I ordered the new combo set last fall but haven't had a chance to put them on yet. That time's coming soon though. It's getting warmer and staying light longer every day. I can't wait!

Good Morning.

Winter came back yesterday, with high winds and snow...yuk! Nothing like the 13.6 inches we did have, but enough to stick.

The girl I used to work with (MaureenPT) has a nephew in Iraq and he was injured in an attack the other day. Please keep Phillip in your prayers.
