Well the last time he did this it was his shoulder, and I did take him to the vet, and she said his shoes were off...I thought we had that fixed. What is happening this time is exactly what happened last time. I rode one day, and he was sore the next.

Mack thinks I should not bute him, but go a head and ride him Fri. and stay out a little longer even if he is doing this. Maybe it's just something to do with being out of shape.

Becky

...Not from the shoveling, but pushing through the slush...

I've found it easier to pull the wheelbarrow like a cart when it's really muddy, then turn it around and dump it when you get to the pile. It may work ok for snow too.

Well, he may STILL have a problem with his shoeing then. Even though the vet said to make both his feet the same, sometimes you really can't do that, because both sides of his BODY may not be the same. I was kinda concerned when your vet said that a while back but I didn't want to say anything or push you about it when you were already having problems with with it. Sometimes I don't think that vets know as much about farrier science as they should.

The last time he was here, my farrier was telling me about another client's horse that the vet had sent specific instructions on how she wanted him trimmed and he didn't think it should be done that way because he thought that it would just transfer the stress to some other point. But went ahead and did it because the client insisted and the horse ended up with a cracked something-or-other in the knee and had to be put down. And I'm not saying this to scare you or anything, but I think you're gonna HAVE to find yourself a better trained farrier since Harley's been having these kind of problems. Hopefully this new guy you've got coming will be that guy.

Sorry he's not good...

I don't know how to advise... maybe call the vet and clue her in on this development? I suspect if you're pretty sure she was right about the shoeing then, that it's still the shoeing that still isn't right.

Any chance you can get video of him we can see?

And Mac may be right about just keeping on exercising him. It may be something that is condition related and may work itself out as long as you take it slow and let him go at his own pace. But you know him better than anybody else so I guess all you can do is try it and see how he does. I sure hope it works out for him!

I was at Frogs getting my horses done at the same time and I remember him saying that. Wasn't it at a University or something?

I can't remember, and I can't remember how the conversation got around to that particular topic, but it was interesting none the less. It's hard to know who's advice to take, the vet or the farrier, when it comes down to stuff like that.

And just a FYI, there's a NB farrier listed in Coweta, which looks to be fairly close to you. Their name and number is listed HERE in case you ever don't end up liking the new guy and want to try someone else.

I was thinking it was a vet at a University and the flew him up there to consult but did not like what they told him so he did it the way they told him to do it and the horse got a stress fracture in one of the knee bones.

We should always take pride in not only how our tools work but also how they look. I was helping my DIL move on base several years ago. We were cleaning the old apartment. The toilet was sluggish so we went to Walmart. I was walking around looking for a plunger. The guy asked if I needed help and showed me where they were. I kind of frowned and he asked me what was wrong. I grinned and told him it was just that it was black and so ugly and didn't he have any color cordinated ones? His face broke up and he choked on his laugh. Probably still laughs when he remembers.

LOL! Yeah, a plunger ain't exactly the prettiest thing in the world. Mine gets relegated to the corner of the linen closet when not in use. But they HAVE made great improvements in the design of toilet bowl brushes though. Those little keepers that they come in now really don't look that bad.

If anyone is wondering how we got to toilet brushes on a horse thread, Hair started it with the overturned septic truck. Frog has a really nice looking , new wheelbarrow to haul manure. Home improvement stores carry colored plungers. Walmart hasn't caught on yet. That said, the job that I hate the most at my business is cleaning the bathroom. Clorox has come up with a neat gadget. It is a grasper that holds a disposable brush. You push a button. It locks. You clean and then release it over the trash can. No more scrub brushes.

I've seen those, but never tried them. They do look kinda handy. I would hate to have to clean a public restroom too. It's a sad fact that a lot of people aren't as careful in a public restroom as they are in their own homes. It's one thing to clean up a mess left by a family member but quite another to have to clean up one left by a stranger. Yuck!

Actually, I was looking at a pic and I bought another brand. The students so far have kept mine clean but going into some public bathrooms makes you wonder about people.

Good Morning.

Becky, it might be a good idea to haul Harley to a good equine clinic, where they can x-ray him and hopefully find out where his problems are. With what you want to do with him and how much you ride, it would be worth the expense.
