The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - (very out of date) Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

Oh, I really like that wheelbarrow. Is it very heavy? We have two, one if an older one that is quite heavy. The other is yellow and very light. Both are sitting full right now. No way you can wheel through all that snow. The stalls are a real mess, but typical for winter in Ohio. It is impossible to keep them clean.

No, it's not heavy at all. It's much lighter than my old steel and wood one. I can imagine that trying to wheel through snow would be a no-win proposition. I have a hard enough time going through very much mud. With snow like that, I guess you'd just have to try to pile the manure over to the sides of the stalls and keep the middle clean and get the manure out when ever you can. Either that or sacrifice one stall (if you have the room) and pile it all up in there until you could get it out. Not much fun either way I imagine.

Jeepers, 60s and 70s! and here I am thrilled because it's going to be in the 40s today!

It's suppose to be in the 70's here today too. The sun is shining, it's a beautiful day.

My horse is saddled, I've walked, I've cleaned out the truck, and that was a major undertaking...yuk, and now I'm fixin to go ride awhile.

I know whatcha mean. Even 30's can feel warm after it's been in the teens for a while. I'm READY for some weather in the 70's. I've been seeing Robins for a couple of weeks now, so Spring has got to be just right around the corner.

Have fun on your ride! I wish I could just beam into your head and go with you. It might get me fired though if they found me sitting here like a zombie with a smile on my face. ;o)

Enjoy your ride! My car has to be cleaned out too. It's a bit of a pig pen, and it especially needs to be cleaned out cause I'm moving on Saturday.

Sunday I'm going to drop by the barn and see what my trainer has available for weekend lesson times. And when the days start staying lighter longer, I want to start doing practice rides again. I don't get home till 7, and it's dark by then.

WEll, he is short stepping again on the right side. I cut it short.

I'm going to bute him today and tomorrow and see how he does on Fri. and Sat. My thinking is if he moves fine, then something was hurting, if not then it's just the way he moves, and I'm just being a fuss budget.

Would you say if he is short striding on the right he is sore on the left?

I feel for you Beaker. I have a 45 mile commute and it is often 6:30 or 7 before I get home too. I wish it would stay daylight savings time all year!

Would you say if he is short striding on the right he is sore on the left?

Well, if he's got a sore left FOOT, then he may short-stride on the right, but if he's got a sore right SHOULDER, then he may short-stride on the right because he may not want that shoulder to go through the whole range-of-motion. If he keeps doing it, you may have to take him to the vet's and see if he can figure out where exactly the problem is. In either case, I sure hate it for you coz I know you were wanting to ramp-up his training to get ready for you CTRs.

Doesn't 40 feel good! The sun is shining here and it feels so warm.

When the temps were sub-zero, the "road apples" were frozen, so the stalls were really not that bad. Now, that the thaw has come is when you really notice how bad they are. Good idea putting all of it in an extra stall (which we do have). Just so much work to move it all again.

I did dig out a trench to the manure pile and did get Bodie's stall clean. Only two loads, so it was not too bad. One stall is enough for me today. My back is killing me now. Not from the shoveling, but pushing through the slush. My daughter had back problems and had an epidermal yesterday, so she is out of commission for a bit. No help there.

Because I take the train into the city, it takes me a little longer because of waiting for trains and whatnot. In the morning, it takes me an hour flat, and that's with the commuter rail and subway. In the evening, it takes me about an hour and a half, but that's because of poor train timing, and I swear that the trains run three times slower.
