This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
Wow, that sounds kinda scary! Electricity and propane tanks are kind of a bad combination. The brownout and humming was probably the result of an overload when the power system tried to automatically reroute to other circuits. I hate it when that happens because low voltage can damage electronic equipment, especially refrigerators. I'm glad you're back online now.
That's a mixed bag a emotions, wanting to ride on a nice day when nice days are scarce and having commited to keeping a grand baby:) That is exactly what happened to me yesterday, I kept Tucker. But, it worked out great. Yesterday the temps were nice, but with the 25 MPH winds, it wasn't a good day to ride, and the rest of the week, especially Wed when I normally keep him, is suppose to be nice with no wind.
LOL...I don't see anything wrong with tying a 2 yr old:)

Oh, well, I thought you meant you made the Dr's appointment for her, so you really needed to keep them:)
Hey, a Dr.s appointment shouldn't take all that long, will you have time afterwards?
I've been wondering, is your son still riding Okie?
Becky
My parents used to put a line on me when we went camping and tie me to the picnic table. We usually put lines on the little ones when on the dock at the beach house, even with life jackets. Beats having to hold their hand and not let them run around at all.
LOL!!! Sounds like something I would do! Most 2yr olds NEED a rope tied to them to keep them out of stuff.
This is one of my favorite pictures of all time. It's called "Redneck Timeout".
Hey, it looks like a pretty good idea to me! ;o)
We were really worried about the computers... They're on surge protectors but they kicked off and on a few times before it went out... we were scrambling to figure out what was going on and didn't get to the wall to unplug them till it was over. But all appears fine this morning!
She was everywhere. Climbing under fences...Letting the 4 y/o hold the lead rope might have been a little overboard though but he had her walking really good by the time we left:')
Heh... I'm sure she was no worse for wear.... wouldn't have bothered me a bit.
ROFLOL:)
Becky
lol. My DIL looked at it and laughed too.
That bumping on and off is a result of the system circuit breakers trying to clear the line. Sometimes when something shorts the system, like a squirrel or something, it'll kick off like that for a second, then kick back on, and a lot of times that'll fry anything that's on there off of the line. But it'll only do that 2 or 3 times before it shuts off completely, just so it won't completely fry the whole system. Power Systems are interesting animals. My husband's an electrical engineer and his dad and uncle and both brothers are electricians so I get to hear a lot of this kinda crap at home.
Yeah, but not as much the last two weeks. He takes his boards Saturday and has been studying a lot.
Well great that he is still riding, and wish him luck on his boards. It's to be an RN right?
Becky
I can just imagine the circumstances that lead up to that picture...you're keeping the little bugger and he/she has finally gotten on your LAST nerve and you just need a little rest. The only thing that's missing is a little bit of tape over the mouth. Guess it's a good thing I never had kids. ;o)
LVN.
I enjoy them more when they get about 3 or 4 and past the fits and will stay with you, and are POTTY TRAINED.
Hey - it's good stuff to know :~) It's all black magic to me.
The hum was the weird thing... I wish I had it to do over again, I'd go listen to that. It made the whole thing feel like an alien invasion or something, just couldn't figure out what was happening. There wasn't wind, we weren't on alert that the power might go out.
I'm familiar with LPN (Licensed PRACTICAL Nurse), but what's the "V" in LVN stand for? That's a new one on me.
Well, it makes a big big difference when they are your own.
To be honest, I've never been that much of a kid person...except with my own. I worried about how much patience I'd have with grandkids, and maternal instincts kicked in again, and I'm OK with them:). But they sure wear me out more then my kids did. I don't know how these grand parents now a days, keeps grandkids over night or for several days....I don't have that much stamina,
On the days I keep them JP and Tucker come in the mornings, and by 3:00 I'm taking them home. In a have to situation I could probably keep them longer, but if I don't have too, I'm not:)
Jenny called me last night, very very excited, Tucker started walking last night....a new level of activity. But actually, that makes it easier to take them outside, and I love taking them outside, and just following them around exploring things.

DVRs will spoil you that way. I find myself wanting to replay stuff all the time, especially the car radio, when I've missed something that somebody said. It would be kinda handy to be able to replay stuff in real life, wouldn't it.
