This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
Yeah, Grizzly was great, and I was surprised watching him. It looked to me he knew exactly what he was doing, but I don't know how he learned it.
I don't think I worry so much about them getting loose here because I'm not a busy street at all. Once he was loose tho, he cut thru the property between me and my neighbors and I did have a twinge of fear of him disappearing into the woods. But really I don't think they like thick brush anymore then we do, he came back out onto the road. I figured he'd go up and down the road a few times and I was hoping he'd turn into the drive after awhile. I was hoping Rocky would holler for him, but Rock is use to him leaving soo...

The pictures are loading, I'll post them here:)
Yeah, even working with him for quite awhile, I couldn't get him perfectly square. But he did do real well once he figured out what I was wanting him to do. I think it would have been hard even with someone to hold hiim, he just wanted to move that one back foot, just a little.
Becky
So there's an upside to them being herdbound. ;~)
Pony got loose here once... I was shaking grain but she was too hyped to want that... but Bay was going ape&%!* so she pretty much ran back and forth along the pasture fence. (the brush that is there now wasn't there then) I was able to herd her back into the compound.
He's part Heeler, right?
Good for Grisley. Funny how a dog can herd a big horse, isn't it?
yeah, he is 1/2 heeler, but he doesn't go after their heels, he runs and nips at their faces actually. He is also 1/2 catahoula, which is a herding/hunting dog, I've been told. Herding dogs, I've been told:), will go for the front end to turn them in a directions, where as heelers just heel, drive them on....I don't know anything about how they work, but watching him turn that horse to go into the fence, and then stop pushing so the horse didn't go thru the fence, then he sat down at the horses hip...it was amazing to see...
Becky
Pretty cool. And handy! Just funny since you ride with him all the time that he would know this was different, and not just another adventure following the horse!
Here's the pictures I took after the great escape:)

I couldn't get one straight on from the back side, His tail isn't long enough to hold out of the way and get a full lenght shot. This was the best I could do by myself.
Becky
He looks all innocent in that pic:')
I think you ought to post them over there. First of all, he looks great. Second - how many people on that forum have a horse that stands ground tied?
Gosh - he looks white. He's a little camped under in the back, but they're not bad. They're better than the ones where he wasn't level.
~chuckling~ But neither does Becky... he took off down the street, remember? :~)
~ducking~
LOL...exactly he knew in the pen, he wasn't going anywhere anyway:).
Becky
It's a helpless feeling, watching them trot down the driveway... When pony did it my heart just sank.
Well, Rosie's off the hook. The dog's owners saw the flyer at the store and called. He's headed back home now.
Glad you heard from the dog's owners.
Rosie's still not home... she never knew she almost had a dog. :~)
Ohhhhhhhhh:')
