The FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread! - Thread 11

Posted on 01/02/2007 9:57:39 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - (very out of date) Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

Where are we going?

There are some plans in the works for a bunch of us to meet in October, at Becky's (Paynoattetionmanbehindcurtain) place in Oklahoma. Her place is the most centrally located. It would be fun to get together and do some riding. It would be quite a haul for us, but if we made plans to stop at different boarding places on the way, maybe it would not be too bad.

I am planning on buying a new trailer with a living quarters, pretty soon. Having someone else to travel with me, would be much better. Your work schedule might interfere though.

When I grew celery, it was suggested to put a cardboard milk carton around the stalks. Suppose to make them grow tighter. You certainly could use those leaves in soups or salads, if the stalks do not grow real big.

That is amazing how the plant took off like that.

The Pony Express picture is so neat! I just love it. Nice mare, nice and tall, but she sure did gray out! No spots at all in the last picture.

I used to have one like that. We were so poor when we first got married that we couldn't afford a refrigerator. It kept everything really cold.

"Cigarette?" "Thanks."

I finally got my sign up and it was SPELLED WRONG. They fixed it though. My husband and I have been running all over town today. We have a new Church and Wendys (next to each other) that just opened. We ate and watched outside as "Wendy" beat up the "Chicken" :') It was cute.

:) You can still see her spots when she's wet but that's about it. She turned into a real good mare.

Is celery not damaged by freezing temps? If nothing else, it's a really pretty plant. I think it would look nice in a flower bed.

Evidently not... it was out there for the worst part of winter! :~) ~shrugs~

Good morning everyone! We just got back from a sinful breakfast of truck stop pancakes and bacon :~o

Good morning,

I'll take a picture or two when I get the display up :) It's amazing how it looks fine up on the walls in the kitchen and when I take it down, it's so dusty and dirty. I should have been collecting something that doesn't need dusting and/or polishing.

Good morning,

We were going to go out to breakfast this morning and then drive to California and get lottery tickets. We decided we didn't really want to leave Friday alone and it looks like snow in the mountains anyway.

Wow, I ~love~ the retro Coke machine! That would be so cool to have at our stable.

Thanks! Isn't it fun? Works great, too.

I just love antiques. Reminds me of a simpler time. Also, cokes in those little glass bottles always taste better. The machine gets so cold that there are little ice chips floating in the cokes. Very refreshing on a hot day after mucking stalls.
