The FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread! - Thread 11

Posted on 01/02/2007 9:57:39 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - (very out of date) Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

Does the foal have app in him? Looks like there is some white on his rump?

Good morning?

We're suppose to warm up here for the next few days, but it's very windy, so it doesn't "feel" warm. Hopefully the wind will die down.

I'm going to my great nieces 2nd birthday party today....then we are all meeting at the building to play cards. That's my day.

Becky

The foal (a filly) became my ex-DIL's endurance mare. She greyed out but still has some dark spots on her rump. She also is the dam of Josey. E (Little Egypt) came in 13 seconds behind the leader in her first endurance race. I'm hoping Tracey starts back campaigning her - we always planned on her doing the Tevis Cup.

E (on the right) as a 2yr old, with her momma.

As a four year old.

Last year as a 7yr old.

I don't just have on thermals -- I have on my kayaking underwear! (it's a very thick polypro fleece - shorty turtleneck and shorty bottoms).

It is so darned cold here. When I saddled up Gracie, I left her blanket over her back to keep her warm. I finally had to take it off and lead her out to the barn door, and when we got to the door she actually BALKED!

Reposting this here.... a curiosity for gardeners... A few ~months~ ago... before Christmas probably, we took a wilting bunch of celery that had gotten too old in the fridge and put it in the squirrel/bird sanctuary, to see if they'd want it. I sortof propped it up and stuck it in the ground like it was a plant, it looked kindof cute.

Well, nobody wanted to eat it, and it wilted and got rather brown and soggy. I hadn't bothered to climb back in there and clean it up, I just left it there. Now it's very definitely growing! :~)

How fascinating. I thought you could only grow celery from seed to that's an eye opener. :) Now you can have fresh celery any time you want.

:) Just amazes me. I'm going to try it, I like celery but am completely put off by the fact that I have to plant those tiny little seeds and wait - forever.

Well, it did sortof wilt and not do anything for months, so I'm not sure it's faster, but it is something you can do if you've got some old celery you'd otherwise just throw out :~)

My husband bought me an antique coke machine to keep at the barn. The cokes in little glass bottles are hard to find but wal-mart usually has them.

They needed a nap after all that action.

LOL - those are some pictures. I really like your coke machine. I'll have to keep an eye out for something like that to put in our barn.

I had been looking at coke machines on ebay for quite awhile but they are all overpriced. We got that one from a friend of my in-laws for a fraction of what they are going for on ebay. I got it last summer, it sure was nice having ice cold cokes in bottles on hot summer days. You can also get small dr. peppers in glass bottles at wal-mart. I want some sprites but haven't found any.

That's what I was thinking. It would be so nice to have something like that here during the summer. I wouldn't mind just finding something that I could load with cans.

There are tons of used coke machines out there that take cans and they are very reasonably priced.

I'll make that my next project - to find one.

I'm polishing copper right now. I have a *collection* of copper that has to go in a display case at work the first of March. I thought if I polished it a little at a time, it wouldn't seem like such a pain in the neck. Wrong :)
