The FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread! - Thread 11

Posted on 01/02/2007 9:57:39 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - (very out of date) Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

You are 100% right on that he needs to slim down:), It's just so hard to do for me. The minute I make a tiny bit of progress, I panic and think he is going to turn in to a skeleton:)... I was like almost every other beginner horse owner way back when. It took some time to learn how to feed them properly and we went thru a period of having to skinny of horses. Now that I know what a horse needs, I tend to start worrying when they drop weight, even if they NEED to do it...LOL...I drive my self insane. I hate being a worry wart, but I can't stop. Poor Harley's flaw is ME:)

Well, I've been going thru the different horses trying to give my opinion. If I can give both good and critical, then I do it. But there is one over there, I think the title is "appendix mare" Lord, I can't find one redeeming quality on that horse other then it's a horse and sounds like a good one as far as riding which is the important thing. But the owner said to be gentle or something, so I passed it.

Then that fire1 lady posted some nice things about Harley, so I looked at her horses, and have to pass on comments too. Their OK horses, but they need some groceries...but that could just be me too.

I sortof felt the same way about the TWH I commented on... but after I yelled at him about posting a bunch of links instead of pictures, I felt I had to comment once he fixed it.

A few pictures I took today. Lugar enjoying the belly deep snow.

The tractor won't start, so I did some baja'ing back to the barn with my truck. It was just so hard walking through all that snow, plus I bought 400# of feed today and was not going to tote it back there. Poor truck is a mess now from driving on the salt covered roads. At least they are clear.

:) Didn't like the bugs and the humidity. Didn't like the fact that I couldn't see 100 miles.

I have a real problem with that too since I'm used to my horses at halter weight and that's really too heavy for much else.

Lugar's having a ball! (I swear they don't feel the cold!)

We just had a few pitiful flakes here yesterday -- not even enough to make the dogs look up and wonder where it was coming from. The little tiny crystals looked like sparkles in Ruby's black fur, but they were too small to get a good picture of!

For what I need right now, the 2h BP models would suit me. My old 2h is eating tires like there's no tomorrow. I really like the "Bumper Sport" and the "Townsman" since I don't really camp or anything. They didn't have many pictures of the Townsman so I'd like to see a few more of it, like looking in the back with the doors open, looking in the escape door, looking in the tack compartment door, that kinda thing. I see where they have free delivery within 1000 miles, so that would suit me just fine coz it's 686 miles from here to there.

Hey, I replied to your thread on Pony's conformation over there on the other forum. Since you were talking about her jumping so well, you've gotta post that pic of her jumping over that jump out in the pasture on the longe line. That's one of my all-time favorites.

Yeah - I posted it... along with her flexibility pic, just for a bit of fun :~)

That one's good but it was actually another that I liked better. She's jumping from right to left in it and her lines are just so smooth and fluid. You gotta find it.

Ah - was it this one you liked better?

I should really build some pretty jumps and get some new pictures this summer. She'd easily go a lot higher. She rather enjoys it!

While I was looking I found these that cracked me up :~) Cyn having a meltdown about a 4x4 that's practically on the ground - and then making a big production out of me making her walk over it... eye on that lunge whip ;~)

Oh, that is a good one of Pony jumping, I like it too.

I like Cyn stepping over the rail too. She looks all tucked up, like that whip is really hurting her...:)

Well I did make it town and got pictures of the Doc's. There are so many things there tho, that you need to see I'm going to try loading them all in an album and then posting a link here. So it may be awhile.

I did get pictures of our new tanning beds tho:)<

Kind of looks like a coffin, or a space age time machine.

It does look like a coffin :~) I'd be a little claustrophobic in there! I'm around when you get the album done.
