The FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread! - Thread 11

Posted on 01/02/2007 9:57:39 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - (very out of date) Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

Gosh, I don't know... will he eat a complete pellet that's got all his forage in it, like Becky feeds?

Yeah, he probably would, I just like for them to have all day munchies, hay or pasture. Guess that's going to be out for George from now on. Getting old sucks.

Tell me how you fix your bran mash. I've never made one before.

Might he eat beet pulp if it's mixed with something else. Prez can't have hay at all. He gets Equine Senior, Strategy, Alfalfa pellets and beet pulp in a sort of wet mash. Perhaps Equine Senior or Complete pellets with beet pulp. Prez has his beet pulp mixed at night for the morning and in the morning for night. Then the pellets are poured on top of it and they soak up moisture too.

There is a basement apartment for sale on AOL. It's in London. 73 sq feet. 350K.

73 square feet? That's the size of a bathroom.

Wow.

A coffin-sized shower is en suite, and storage is provided by a shallow closet and 10-inch-deep shelves cut into the wall. Two hot plates and a small sink make up the kitchen. Two dirty windows allow light to filter into the basement room, and the fire escape could conceivably double as a shared patio.

With no electricity or heating, Scott said it would cost an additional $59,000 to make the room habitable.

She's ok. Cindy is in the garage so we have her out there. She's content. When she is by herself she crys. I just got home. I'll see if I can find the camera cord and get some pics in a bit.

i'm feeding him a senior feed that has a bit of molasses in it that he really likes but it's not a complete feed. he needs some roughage so i'm going to try your suggestions. I didn't think of mixing the beet pulp with his feed. thanks!

If there is a place where he can eat that the other horses can't get to, you might find that he munches on the mix during the day. Prez doesn't wolf his down usually, he eats on and off for two or three hours. I think that is something he has learned to do since he doesn't have hay.

I think he'll probably learn - due top the bulk the beet pulp gives him.

Actually I don't feed bran mash, I usually just add hot water to their normal grain. They like it :~)

He's on the light side right now, I've been feeding him up a little.

That is scary! Glad you weren't hurt.

I carry an 8ft bamboo poke pole to defend my space
in the paddock now. My naughty horse sees it and
her behavior becomes much more respectful.
