The FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread! - Thread 11

Posted on 01/02/2007 9:57:39 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - (very out of date) Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

...Well, I was trying to be subtle and lady-like...

LOL!! You know we're not long on "subtle and lady-like" over here, at least I'm not. Most times you have to hit me upside the head with a frying pan before something sinks in.

You reckon it was something you ate, or just a stomach bug?

Nice-looking horse! I’m glad he’s working out better for her. Like you say, as long as he behaves himself around other horses, that’s all she needs.

I don’t know if it’s something I ate or not... I don’t remember eating any battery acid. ;~}

I feel fine otherwise, I don’t think it’s a ~bug~.

LOL!!! Ooooh, sorry for laughing, but I've had it like that and it gives a whole new meaning to the word "Rawhide"! Immodium is your friend in times like these.

I’ve been guzzling the pink stuff.

Well, I’m gonna go give mowing a shot. :~)

The pink stuff never even phased it for me, but one Immodium usually did the trick. Sometimes it might take two, but rarely. Just make sure that you don't get too far from the bushes. ;o)

Looks good

REally....hmmmmmmm...I've always thought he was a bit ugly, mainly because he's rather boney and scrawny.

looks like a friendly sort!

Yeah, from what she says he is pretty friendly, likes kisses:)

How old is he?

She thinks he's around 25. But I think that's a guess on the part of the people she bought him from. She doesn't have any papers.

He looks very typical of Egyptian Arabs... and I’d say he’s at a typical desert weight. Lots of endurance people keep them at about that weight and give them only grass hay to keep them there. If she grained him he’d have a better neck and hindquarter.

Good Job! You’re a mowing MACHINE. I’m always amazed that you do all that with a pushmower. I’d really hafta want something mowed BAD to do it THAT way.

You should have seen what I just finished mowing 'before'... that thick soft stuff where I used to dump shavings in the pasture, had TALL weeds in it. I pushed the mower through it, sortof half mowing half plowing :~D Looks better now :~) I wish all that soft stuff wasn't there, or they'd pack it down, or something.

Oh - just an update... they have not eaten the flowers in the manger box :~)

Not sure it gets quite enough sun there for Petunias, I think Impatiens would be better in there next year.

I don’t know how you kept from choking down the mower with that tall stuff! And I’m amazed that the flowers got left alone. Judging by the amount of shade in that picture I think you’re probably right about the impatiens. And maybe plant some varigated English Ivy in there with them just to have something to hang over the front edge of the container. I think that stuff will pretty much live anywhere. It won’t freeze either, so you should have it from then on.

That old mower’s got a lot of power!

The ivy’s a good idea. And evergreen. :~)

I’m mowing too, but I can only make a few passes then have to come in to cool off. The humidity is just horrible.

LOL - that’s incredible, you have extremely well behaved horses. The petunias look good so they must be getting enough sun.

I missed the pictures last night. The first pictures of the horses standing at the barn is great:). They look cute standing there with their masks on looking out.

I hadn't even noticed that all 3 of them were standing there. Very cute!

Duchess, I don't think the horses are well behaved, I think Petunias just must not taste good :~)

Yesterday also mowed a section of the brush and huckleberry... just to see if I could :~) There's lots more of that :~)
