This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

Wow, that place is fabulous. I love the landscaped driveway. :) Even with a lack of trees, it is beautiful. I noticed the full gun cabinet, in the master bedroom. Lots of quality workmanship in that home. Very, very nice.
That Realtor also has a horseman’s campground listed. Close to a State Park. It is the 3rd one down. I would love to have something like that. Hold organized rides and such.

Wow, that’s a nice one too, but the house is WAAAAAY to big. The barn is great though!
The 2nd one down, in Utica, is actually my favorite. I could move into that place in a heartbeat! The barns are great. The pastures are nice. The house isn’t too big. Heck, you could even use the basement as an apartment for aging parents or hired help if you added a small kitchenette to the downstairs den.

I’m having breakfast and waiting on Julia. We’re riding again today. I’ll try to take some pictures, there just isn’t anything new to show:)
My neighbors up the road have been bull dozing their property this week. I have a feeling horses are in their future. I vaguely remember a mention of horses one of the few times I spoke with them. They have a really nice barn, that has been up for several years. Not sure what the inside its like, if it’s set for horses. Will be interesting to watch.

Busy summertime for everyone. Vacations and all.
It hit 90 yesterday. After the farrier left, I watered the tomato, pepper plants and the flowers. Ben said it rained pretty good here Saturday, but with the temps so hot, it doesn't take long for the plants to start wilting. Nothing like a home grown tomatos.

Well, I hope you take pictures, maybe we’ve seen it all, but we haven’t seen it for awhile!
You know I’ll take pictures when we finally go... Mostly just so you’ll believe we finally went! ;~)
I haven’t been posting much anywhere, really, I’ve just had some erm...well, issues, that are robbing me of my joy. I seem to be better this morning. :~)
Well hopefully if your neighbors get horses they’ll be more than Dime-Store Cowboys and you’ll have some more regular riding buddies. But there’s people all over the place around here who have horses and never ride, so go figure.
For the last few weeks we’ve been having some dozer work done on our place too. There’s one wooded section that’s always been real low and wet and you could stick a tractor or bulldozer in it most of the time so we decided to take advantage of the drought and have a drainage ditch cut across it and put some culverts in so we could drive from one end to the other. It’ll be really nice when we finally move there because I’ll be able to ride through there and not have to worry about losing my horse in the mud and be able to ride to a lot more places from home without having to get out on the road.

I’m back...gawl dern it’s hot...I can’t hardly breath. We made it a couple of hours. She actually asked to lope and trot some. I think she is just more comfortable on this smaller new horse. I have pictures I’ll load in a few. She did try one time to walk the horse in the opposite direction i was going, but when I looked back I saw the horse turn around to follow me, she tried to turn him back but couldn’t get him to so gave up. Really for her, it’s not that big a deal, she’s not going to be going off on her own anyway.
It was fun, and I feel good I’ve rode 2 whole times this week:).

Well I’m glad that at least SOMEBODY’s getting to ride some. I didn’t get to ride any at all last week because of vehicle problems, but I got it fixed and I’m hoping to meet BladeRider somewhere on Sunday and give little Miss Ellie a ride. I haven’t ridden her at all since getting her back from the trainer.
We’ll probably do the rails-to-trails since that’s a nice smooth, flat, mostly shaded trail and since we park at about the middle of it it’s easy to taylor the length of your ride to whatever the conditions are. The heat index is supposed to be around 100 this weekend so I don’t imagine we’re going to do anything all that strenuous.
Ack... sorry about that much heat.
I’ll look forward to the pictures! Glad she’s going good on this horse!
And thanks all... I’d like to be out mowing, but at the moment I don’t want to be that far from the bathroom ;~\
